Online pet pharmacy rec?

Katchoo, 22 April, 2009 at 15:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Our cat has just been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid and high BP. She needs to take a combination of 2 tablets for the rest of her days. The vet has told us it's going to cost £55 a month, but a quick Google of the online pet pharmacies shows that they sell the pills for about half that. Mr K is wary about using an online pharmacy, but does anyone have any experience/can recommend me a good one?

Many thanks. ?

I've used paws247 and hyperdrug.com in the past -great value and service from both. Usually just to get Frontline for the cats and dogs. We have a cat with a hyperthyroid and she's on a one-a-day pill for the rest of her natural nine lives, it seems. At least forcing one pill down her a day is prefarable to going through the torture (to me!!!) twice a day ....

I've not searched either site for her pills - mayhbe I ought to try, next time she's running low!

I regularly use Viovet for Marmite's special food, I also check all the websites I can find for the best value as the manufacturers have put it up £6 since the beginning of the year and although viovet have put the price up it's still cheaper (for product and delivery) than others I've found.

    Thank you both so much!

Hyperdrug do the Fortekor, but not the Vidalta. Paws247 do both. It is literally half the price of the Vet, delivered. I'm going to show this thread to Mr K so he can see it's perfectly safe to buy online. He's worried about getting fake pills, after seeing in the news about the fake Viagara etc bought online.

Ohh thanks Tahdah. Viovet do both too and it is fractionally cheaper. That's fab!

So do you just ask your vet to write out a prescription? Do they charge you for that?

Looks as if I'd better check out Viovet, too! I don't know if the vet will charge for a prescription .... would like to know the answer to this, too.

It is likely that your vet will charge for the prescription - after all you are asking a professional to produce a document - your solicitor wouldn't do similar for free!!!

How much you will be charged varies. You will still have to see you vet usually every 6 months so that your cat is "under his care" which is a legal requirement for writing prescriptions.

Thanks MM. Hopefully he will agree to write a script for 3-6 months supply.

We'll be taking her to the vet every few weeks for blood tests to begin with anyway, then every 3 - 6 months thereafter, so he'll be seeing her regularly.
