orzo pasta

AnnaBanana, 16 April, 2008 at 12:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Im sure there was a thread on this some time ago but can't find it.

Where do you buy it? Ive looked in my local Sains and Waitrose but they don't have any!

Also, any ideas of yummy recipes for it (for when I can eventually buy some?)

?

    Isn't he Orvil's cousin??

Sorry that was dreadful! I had never heard of it until you mentioned it but you can buy it online if that's any good?

I've only eaten it in a salad from the M&S Count on Us range and it's ? Must admit I've never seen it on the shelves of my local Waitrose. [:I]

I'm hooked on it but I just can't replicate the M&S salad ?

I got mine from my local Tesco, it was an online shop but I think the pasta/rice is marked as being Cypriot so it may be in the specialist section IYSWIM

Gah! I see it mentioned on here a lot so I thought it might be widely available and I was just looking in the wrong place. Will try the online site so thanks SLD!
Ive tried my local Tesco too but no luck, they looked at me funny when I mentioned it ?

My fave yummy Orzo recipe. Don't know the quantities, I just chuck it all in...its more lemon that your would guess though.

    Orzo salad
    Orzos (cooked and cooled)
Juice and grated rind of lemons (usually use 2 in a large bowl of orzo)
    lots of fresh chopped mint
    Olive oil
    crumbled feta cheese
    salt and pepper

    Toss it all together.

I made this at the weekend and it was really lovely.

You use lamb shoulder so it is pretty inexpensive and freezes well for a midweek meal. I bought the orzo in a deli in central Manchester, the Arndale Food Market if that is any good for you- the Italian supplies counter near the fish stall.

Good luck with the search. It's my current favourite ingredient, great for bulking out stews.

I haven't been able to find any near me either and have tried Sainsburys, Tesco and M&S.

Hopefully I can pick some up in Italy when i go in September [8D]
