OT Charm bracelets

irrelephant, 24 July, 2009 at 10:44 Posted on Planning 0 40

Does anyone own a charm bracelet? I am thinking of asking for one for my 21st birthday (its in November but i like to plan ahead). My mum had originally wanted to buy me a ring for my 18th birthday and then said she would buy for my 21st instead but er mr delicious beat her to it and its ended up as my engagement ring... So i thought a charm bracelet might be the way to go, a nice keepsake of the important times, like i could get a mortar cap charm when i graduate etc.

I've had a look already this morning and i really love these two from links of london:

the signature bracelet https://www.linksoflondon.com/charm-maker

and the silver bracelet https://www.linksoflondon.com/charm-maker

But i've also seen this one called a Pandora charm bracelet, does anyone have one or seen one? It doesnt look like a traditional one with the hanging charms but you can put other stuff like glass beads and things on too

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/6584284/

and then you choose your charms which look like this:

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/browse/N/179+4294966708/

What do people think? does anyone have one, would you be willing to show me what type? or recommend anyone who does nice ones?

ETA i've just seen one called a truth charm bracelet, similar style to the pandora but slightly cheaper, but the beads and charms don't seem as readily available. Has anyone ever heard of this one?

I have this one, it's not a Links of London bracelet but it's very similar, the same one from Links is called Sweetie, the charm is from Links though, I think the beauty of this style is you can mix and match charms from wherever you fancy.

    Hiya, I have one!

It's quite a traditional silver one more like the links of london one rather than pandora. I have stacks of charms now, a "21", lucky charm, horse shoe, house, a mortar cap, aussie charms, etc. It has a heart shaped lock wih a saphire coloured stone in. My sis bought it for my 21st birthday & I love getting charms to add to it, it means alot to me now. It's from Australia, so I can't really recommend where to go or a make, but I would tend to prefer my type over the pandora type, but each to their own!

The pandoras are really nice , there is a new style out called 'Chamilla' and the charms fit onto pandoras. I do love Links of London too, theres just to much to choose from!

Great idea for a 21st, i really want one for my 30th

I heart Links of London! I bought my goddaughter a charm bracelet - like the one you linked too - as a christening pressie with a fairy godmother charm & my sister a sweetie bracelet for her bday last year. She has bought a charm to add to it.

    Thanks girls!

Busybee, i've just been looking at those new chamilla ones, and the beads are lovely!

i can't decide if i like the traditional one (in which case i would go for one of the links of london ones, but not the sweetie ones as i don't think it would suit me.) or the pandora one better. I think as someone above said (sorry can't remember) i can use any type of charm on the traditional type, but the pandora ones can have pretty glass beads and stuff on them too, as well as the charms.

I do suit simpler jewellery so maybe a traditional one would look better? hmm! decisions decisions!

I have a charm bracelet which is just a traditional, silver charm bracelet, but I never, ever wear it. It was a BM gift from my Mum, when she married my Step-Dad, but It is too clumpy with all of the charms and gets in the way. On the other hand, I really like that Links of London "sweetie" one and if I had one, I would wear it everyday, without adding charms.

I actually do have a silver bracelet (it's almost like a really thin cuff) that I have never taken off since my Mum gave me for my 16th Birthday. Aparently she bought it on the day that her divorce papers came through when I was a baby ?! But it's a lovely bracelet and it is discreet enough to wear everyday.

I also had a Tiffany & Co. Bracelet, which I had for years and could have added charms to, but I hated it and recently sold it on eBay to pay for driving lessons! (see photo below)

I'm like you OLL don't like the charms getting in my way so the sweetie one would be perfect for you, I have 3 charms but only have one at a time on it, have had them all on but just on my nerves Smiley smile

Really like the Pandora style also and the glass beads are very eye catching.

Let us know what you decide on!

Thats what i'm thinking OLL. If i got a traditional one, it might get in my way and i'd be scared of breaking the charms as i am so clumsy. Plus mr delicious might break it, he has a tendency to do such things. He once bought me a lovely beaded bracelet when we first got together, as my first valentines present. He then leant on it one morning in bed and i hadn't realise and as i pulled my hand away it completely overstretched it and is not at all wearable now ☹️

So with that in mind, perhaps the pandora one might be the way to go? its less expensive too.

Is that the traditional type? do you think the pandora might be a better choice as i can then personalise it more, add/take things off more easily to simplify it/more colourful etc at different times?

I Think either will of them will date but perhaps the traditional ones are easier to buy charms for in the future? its a tough one!

My oh gave me this type for my birthday (30th back there in June) as he knows that I don't like jangly type charm bracelets. you can replace the links and can end up with 2 bracelets if you want.

    http://www.nomination.com/showPage.php?template=collections&masterPage=composable-collection-inside.html&search=composable

I have 2 letters (J and start of surname) and a heart at the moment but there seems to be plenty I can add... Though looking at the site you can have hanging charms too.

I spotted some lovely charm bracelets on www.folksy.com a couple of days ago. It is basically a website for people to sell their hand made jewellery so there is loads of different styles etc. and you're bound to find something you like! I think you can search for keywords so you should be able to find them quite easily.

My shop is the Frog and Princess ? if anyone is interested in having a look - I've only just started so let me know what you think!

The parents of the children that I teach bought me this as an end of term present-

It's by 'Nomination' and instead of traditional charms you change the links.

Hi Delicious I have the Links of London Sweetie bracelet with the engagement ring & starfish charm. It's really very sturdy (trust me, I bash mine around loads)

The only think with the Links of London Sweetie bracelet is EVERYONE has one! I noticed this when I was seeing Take That a few weeks ago - everyone in line for the loo had one on - no joke!

My friends have LoveLinks bracelets and they love them and can be made to look completely different from everyone elses?? Just an idea!

Thanks girls. Spangles, what is a lovelinks bracelet? is it like the one serafina and ashke showed me above?

And does anyone know is the chamilia charms fit the pandora bracelet or would i have to buy a chamilia bracelet? because i love both designs and think i might go for the pandora, but chamilia has more charms.

For my birthday last November, David got me a Links of London Sweetie bracelet, and I adore it. I got one for my daughters because I liked mine so much. I only keep one charm on it so far, the 'Secrets' one,, for obvious reasons Smiley winking. I have my eye on a few more, but that's the fun bit. I lost a Tifany bracelet years ago, and was sick about it. So no more toggle style for me.

Ah, is the toggle kind easy to lose then? i've seen a chamilia one that is the same as the pandora but a toggle style and i love it as has what i love about the links of london and pandora all in one.

The toggle type of fastener is probably ok for most people, but I tend to have bad luck with things like that. I think I must have knocked it or something and it just fell off. I had a toggle style necklace once too, and managed to lose it too. I'm cursed, lol.

    Hiya,

http://www.cblovelinks-uk.co.uk/ has piccies of the bracelets - basically silver/gold chain that you add charms on to. My friends can change their beads to suit their outfits - they look lovely.

    Hope this helps! Smiley smile

I wear a Pandora charm bracelet - my charms and beads are a mixture of white gold, yellow gold and silver. You can get coloured glass beads too so you can mix and match it to suit your style or what you're wearing. The nice thing is you can either stick to just beads or you can add the beads with the dangling charms so it can be as "dangly and jangly" as you like.

I have a pandora!!! =Dits much better than my other normal charm bracelet cos i'm not constantly worried i'm going to loose a charm!! and the glass bead ones are beautiful. they have so many to choose from, with loads to symbolise different occasions, and theyre really easy to change to charms. It's the one i got for my 18th

The Chamila chams will fit onto a pandora Bracelet, good choice bu the way. Cant remember who mentioned the sweetie bracelet but she was right everyone is wearing them, i've lost count of how many i have seen but they are really nice. My only concern with the sweetie is the ones we sell are are fine nylon thred with all the rings on it. I would break that in a week lol.

Im quite excited for you, whens your birthday cant believe you only 21 i feel like a right old maid!

Thanks busybee. I've discovered that pandora, troll, chamilia, biagi and lovelinks beads will all fit onto either the pandora or chamilia bracelets. I just can't decide whether i should get the pandora with the normal type of clasp as it is less likely to get lost, or to get the chamilia with the toggle which i adore!

And i'm not 21 till november but i was bored on friday and so decided to have a look around.

Just to let you know, this post wast written in July and I think DWC is sorted for a charm bracelet now - so you may not see a reply to this from her. I should imagine that the troll just above you bounced this thread to promote their business.
