O/T I smell of TCP

ruthy_wuthy, 4 October, 2008 at 09:58 Posted on Planning 0 20

My cat launched himself at my hands and arms. OH had to get his claws out of my fingers because I couldn't get him off me [:'(]

I now look like I've been rubbing hands and arms on rose bushes and it stings. OH has rubbed TCP all over the bites and scratches and I smell of hospital ?

Why would my cat do that? He used to do it a lot when he was a kitten but he's 2 now. I think to him it's just as game but he must know he's done wrong because he just runs away afterwards and hides.

    Ouch poor you!

My cat, Harvey is a moody bugger and sometimes he scratches me when he's being grumpy. Your cat probably just was playing and got overenthusiastic! TCP is good. I know the smell is horrible, but better that than get all infected!

The fact that he went and hid I'm sure means that there was no malice intended!

    Ouch indeed, Bad cat!!!!

Ive recently developed that cat scratch look without the cat. Its really annoying and embarrasing. Linked to my dematitis/hay fever. Least I dont stink of TCP. Just have people staring at me. Hoping I dont have it by the time of the wedding.

Hope you arent left with scars. Give him a smack from me!

The running away and hiding is probably part of the game as far as your cat is concerened! It took 16 months with our cat to stop random attacks... she still lapses occasionally!

Go and buy yourself an aloe vera plant - heals cuts really well and doesn't smell as much!!

Cats are fickle creatures. Is it really windy in Cheadle Hulme today? It sends my cats mental - today is no different. Blowing a gale off the north sea and hitting my flat full on - and Rusty and Giz are both moon monkeys. they're ripping chunks out of each other but they could turn on me any time!

Rusty can be sat as quiet as a mouse and then will sink his teeth into the top of my head for no reason (if he's sat on the back of the sofa).

Aloa rocks - I used it in Zanzibar for major sunburn I got the day after my wedding - the gardens were full of giant aloe plants and the mgr said 'go pick the leaves and use it' - and its just the most glorious thing - sure it works on cuts too. Wish I could grow one in my front garden!!

Biscuit (my cat) has been chucked outside and is chasing leaves in the wind but he's desperate to come back indoors! We don't have a cat flap so we have the power (muahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!). We've put his food and water outside so he won't go hungry! Is it really mean to not let him come back in for a while?

It is super windy outside Mrs SP! I'm almost tempted to say in my pjs all day and watch TV all day long! I watched Mamma Mia last night and it was fab!!! I don't need to go our for anything really.

I'm feeling sorry for myself and everyone will probably be able to smell me a mile off if I do go out!

Betty says thanks for the warm pat! She's black all over apart from a white patch on her tummy and a couple of white hairs under her neck.

Gizmo and Rusty are lovely! Are they a special breed?

Some would say they are 'speshul' rather than special! They do act like idiots sometimes. They've calmed down now - are both sleeping.

Gizmo is a chinchilla and Rusty, who is his half brother is a Chinchilla cross Birman.

    They are rescue cats.

They tend to look after themselves to be honest - sometimes Giz has to be freed of massive knots which can appear if you look at him in the wrong way but Rusty tends to be knot free unless he gets really upset or stressed for any length of time and then it shows in his coat, which goes rough and dull and knotty.

But apart from me having to hoover every single day to keep the hair at bay, they're pretty easy to look after.... I's love my boys!

A friend of mine has just gone and bought a Maine Coon from a breeder in Newcastle for £400 plus travel from Scotland to Newcastle and back because his wife didn't want a 'moggy'. Sure, he's a stunning cat but ... there are sooo many cats who need good homes who are couped up in rehoming centres and such like - Maine Coons might not often get put up for rehoming or dumped in a bin or at the side of the road but plenty of other beautiful cats do.

I don't get it. Cat Snobbery makes me mad!!

I used to be a cat snob too. I did buy Harvey from a breeder. But of the various cats I've had over the years, the rest have been rescues.

Jasper (RIP) was rescued from my ex's mother who decided that as her daughter had suddenly become allergic, she'd have the cat put down! I can't write here what I thought of that, but needless to say, he came to live with us. I loved him to bits. Nursed him through a horrendous illness which cost me a fortune and ended up sadly having to have him put to sleep at the age of 11. He was a really special boy and I still miss him dreadfully.

Betty as I said, was a rescue from the RSPCA. She is still the most nervous little soul that I've ever met, but she's just so sweet and I love her to bits! She won over my fiance who was adament that he didn't like cats, but he now loves her and keeps sneaking her treats!

Thingy (RIP) turned up in my garden one day. He was a stray, thin as anything, but was determined he was moving in with me! I kept coming down in the morning to find him purring on my sofa having forced his way in through the cat flap. Couldn't find his owner, and as the original soft touch, I had to let him stay! He was a real character. A big black and white softy. You could never leave any food around as he'd steal it. Anything. Curry, toast, icecream, yoghurt (a personal fave) fruit(!) Anything. When I broke up with my ex and was in a terrible state, he'd come and find me, and sit with me purring. He was lovely! Sadly he was run over. He's now buried in my garden, and silly sod that I am I still say hello when I pass. He was one in a million and it makes me misty to think of him!

I'd never pay a breeder for another cat now. I've done the pedigree thing with Harvey, so it's out of my system!

A moment of weakness is forgiveable! Harvey is beautiful - Maine Coons are stunning but I still wouldn't pay money for one. Making a hefty donation to a cat charity is cool tho'.

We used to have Pickle too - a slinky black wee thing who appeared in a friends garden one autumn and knowing I too am a soft touch my friend invited me round to 'see the cute kitten'. 3 days later she came home with me - I couldn't just leave her living rough! The vet thought she was about 4mths. She was house trained tho' so she either escaped and got lost or was dumped.

Either way she was adorable. We did put up notes to say we'd found her but no one came fwd so ... She still is adorable but lives with the MIL as Pickle and Rusty just couldn't live together.

Pickle loves her new life as Queen Bee and bosses the adorable cat who lives next door to her around very nicely apparently. She's got very tubby tho' - I think MIL is over feeding her but I mustn't stick my nose in. I do miss her tho'.

Pickle sounds so lovely! You sound as soft as me, Mrs SP! I'm just a hopeless case! One of my friends works for this place: https://www.foalfarm.org.uk/

It's a charity in Kent near where she lives. I've banned myself from the website otherwise there's a very real chance I'll end up with another load of cats wandering around!

I don't have any pics here of Harvey when I got him home. He was the cutest kitten. All fluffy, but a nightmare who refused to sleep anywhere else apart from under my chin! It was like having a baby. I only slept when he slept! I just couldn't resist him at all!

I don't seem to be able to paste a pic of my cat ☹️

But so far today, Harry has pulled half the contents of the kitchen bin out and dropped them on the floor and knocked a box of dried cat food off the top of the fridge freezer. Just waiting for H2B to get home from work and no doubt, Harry won't have been naughty - he'll just have been 'playing' - and they'll be off for a boys only cuddle!

We all love them really though don't we?!?!

I've a real sense of dislike for TCP , as at age 11 i had chickenpox & my grandad covered me in Tcp & it bloody hurt.

On a better note here is Tiss , i didn't ask for her or even want her at the time but now i couldn't be without her.
