O/T is anyone on Cerazette? (poss TMI)

Stazzle, 23 March, 2009 at 15:40 Posted on Planning 0 10

I do apologise if this is TMI, I will try to word it as discreetly as possible!

About 4 months back the nurse practitioner recommended I switch my contraceptive pill from Microgynon to Cerazette (the mini-pill), as my BMI had gone over 30 ? ? and that apparently means there is a more significant risk of clotting. So I agreed to switch over until my BMI had come back under 30 (am currently doing WW and it’s going well so hopefully that won’t be long)

I just wanted to ask those of you that are on it, if you don’t mind, do you find that you bleed regularly? As I said, I’ve been on it roughly 4 months now and I didn’t bleed at all for the first 3 of those. Then around the time I went back to get another supply of them, I started bleeding very lightly but it went on for about 5 days. The nurse said that was normal, but now about a month later I am bleeding again. Very very lightly, but it’s really annoying as it’s too light to wear a tampon, so I have to wear pantyliners (and I despise them). Also, I am starting to wonder how often this will happen, as if I can’t predict it it’s going to wind me up (not to mention ruin my underwear!)

Does it regulate the longer that you’re on it, or do you just find that you go through spotting every now and then at random? I know that hopefully I won’t be on it very long, but it would still be good to know as it could still be a few months yet.

Thanks in advance, and sorry again if it was a bit TMI ?

    Hiya,

I am on Carazette, and have been on it for a number years. This is the 2nd time I have been on it, the 1st time I had a continual bleed only light but continual. I tried using them for quite a few months with no success. They suspected I had pcos (polsistic ovary syndrome) which has been confirmed I have not. They tried me on another pill which was brilliant can not rememberf the name, it was like the normal combination pill. Then they put me on the injection which just stopped me bleeding, my migraines started to increase so they took me of it. They put me back on to cerazette must be 3 years ago, because my bleeds have been suspressed (sorry on spelling). I have not had a single bleed on cerazette since. I wanted to come of this as my bmi is coming down, but due to my age and the length of time to when we want kids they recommend me to stay on it.

I think you need to speak to the practice nurse or the doctor. Like the injection the mini pill suspresses you bleeds, no bleeds should occur.

I hope I have helped in a roundabout fashion. Good luck x

    Hi Fiona

Thanks for replying! Yes, it does help - thanks. The only thing that confuses me is that my nurse actually asked me "what's your bleeding pattern" when I went after being on it for the first 3 months, and I obviously thought you weren't supposed to bleed on it. But she said it can vary from person to person - it's annoying though if you can't predict it. I think I am going to go straight back on Microgynon (which is a combined pill) when my BMI comes back down as I was on that previously for about 7 years with no problems whatsoever, and my bleeds were like clockwork!

    Thanks for your help.

I would love to know myself what a bleeding pattern is, when I was not on the pill prior to h2b. I was like on a bleed every month for 3 months then nothing for 4 and then it would be different again. The doctors where never concerned and said that every women is different, I had been like that since I started. That is why the pcos was suspected, but I think it was weight as I got heavier.

I'm on cerazette as well and I have no bleeds but I still get a bit of PMS and bloatedness once a month but no bleeding. I was on a mini pill before though - can't remember the name of it and I would have a period regularly every 28 days. I had to come off it after developing a cyst. Cerazette really suits me but if you are worried I think you should speak to your doctor about it. x

I'm on cerazette and its been good for me. Had no bleeding for the first 14 months on it apart from one bleed last feb but that was because i was really really really ill and my body just wasnt keeping it down. Then in dec, jan and feb i had some slight spotting and then at the beginning of march i had some heavier spotting and this bit is hugely TMI but there was once when i wiped and there was a lot there but that was the only time. All four times it was old brownish blood. Since then nothing again so hopefully that it over with. My IBS syptoms are mostly reduced by it too which is a bonus!

I've been on cerazette for nearly 2 1/2 years. Like you I was on microgynon but I had slightly high blood pressure so they recommended I change in case it was due to the pill. I've had no bleeding since, no spotting or anything. It suits me because Ive always had very heavy periods, I was slightly worried at first because I now have nothing but as previously mentioned the doc said that everyone is different with it.

I was on it for about 3 months from End of July - Eng of Oct last year. During that time H said that i was the wife from hell.

I had no bleeding but i had the worst moods ever. I felt as though i hated everyone (even H) would get really emotional and tbh H said that if i didn't come off it then he didn't know if he could put up with me for much longer.

I too was put on it because my BMI was greater than 30 and prior to that i had been on Cliest for 3 years and had no problems what so ever however when i went for my smear test the nurse did a talk about contraception and stuff and asked what i was using and that is when she told me i shouldn't be on cliest.

When i came off the pill totally at the end of october i noticed how different i felt, i didn't feel moody and even H has commented on how nicer i am to live with, atm we're ttc so not using any protection at all but if and when i do get pregnant i'll certainly try and use a different form of contraception because i feel much better without being on the pill.

Thanks everyone for your replies, they have really helped. It's funny how one pill can have such a different effect on different people. I think I have decided to go back to Microgynon as soon as my BMI goes back under 30 - I have 11lbs to go so if I stick to my target of just 1lb a week I will only be on it for another 3 months or so.

Thanks Sara - I think by my experience already this is what I will be like too, if I stay on it permanently. Does it not get on your nerves? I know this sounds a bit nasty but a good 2-3 pairs of my knickers have been 'got' by it already, which is annoying and unsightly even though it's only light. Do you just carry pantyliners on you all the time?
