OU assignment panic..anyone?

Sare, 30 October, 2008 at 15:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Had been feeling really good as sent off my first TMA yesterday. Two people on the forum have said I was supposed to put the word count at the ned of the assignment but I've read through my assessment guide and can't see that anyway.

Can't phone my tutor until tonight.

I'm within the word count but will missing it off mean I'm penalised?

Just had a flick through my assignment guide and there's nothing in there, and it has a specific section on word counts. I put one at the end of mine, mostly because in a sample essay in our course materials it had a word count at the end, and I think it's probably good practice, but I can't imagine you'd get marked down for it, especially not in your first assignment. If you submitted electronically your tutor can do a word count on the document anyway.

Best not to worry I think - I know that's easier said than done!

It's very, very unlikely. particularly if it is your first TMA on the course. It will be fine.

    Hi Sara,

Well done in completeing your first assignment, what course are you doing? I have done two OU courses and it did say to put a word count when I did it. I used to put it in the footer with the page number. i would not worry about it though if it is your first assignment I cant see them taking marks off for it, just ring or email your tutor to say you forgot and tell her/him how many words there are.

Good luck with your course x

No you won't be penalised. It is good practise as it makes it easier for the tutor, but I had some tutors who told me not to bother. If it's your first TMA with that tutor they will just let you know in the feedback, or do a general feedback to the tutor group.

No need to panic and I hope you get good marks.

Thanks everyone. Just been on all the course specific forums and there's nobody about to ask where it's supposed to tell me about writing it.

I'm doing E111 Supporting learning in primary schools. The total was so specific it had to be no more than 50 words either way of 1750.Normally I've had a 10% allowance.

I had to send it in the post so I'll see what the tutor will do before it goes off to the OU itself.

I can't imagine you'd be penalised, I've found them pretty fair with first assignments.
