Outdoor ceremony - Aisle suggestions/tips?

Lauren, 6 July, 2022 at 21:36 Posted on Planning 0 20
I need some ideas/suggestions - getting married outdoors in September and the hotel do not provide an aisle for the lawn/grass.
I went to an outdoor wedding recently and could see the bridal party sinking into the ground with their heels!
A wooden aisle isn’t an option, have found a felt one that rolls out.
Has anyone had similar issue or have any ideas?!
Thank you!

Our friends had a roll of carpet, but I think if you look on etsy for aisle runners there are loads of options and ideas that may help

Etsy does loads of cool custom aisle runners! You can get anything you want printed on them too.

I ordered mine from this vendor and the result was beautiful:

I then had petals on the sides.

I have seen a few of these at weddings but I don't think they would work as they are printed on roller banner material which is like a thin bouncy castle material (best way to describe it ) so when used on grass with heels ?. Remember also that it is likely to be trampled on by all of your guests before you get to walk on it.

Its unusual for a wedding venue not to have a red carpet. I think the only option for you is to buy an off cut remeant carpet but unlikely to get one that is a long thin length.

You could try looking for a "carpet runner" which you buy by the metre.

You may be right in terms of walking in heels, but guests do not trample aisle runners before the ceremony. I don't think anyone walked on mine at all!

If practicality is the main concern, beyond aesthetics, then there are roll-out paths for wheelchairs that are sturdy and can be used.

You may even be able to put a custom aisle runner on top of a wheelchair pathway.

Perhaps your venue had plenty of space but guest do walk on isle runners but how much will depend on the layout of the ceremony room because in some rooms they have to walk on them in order to get to their seats.

What I have seen is that the printed isle runner is turned upside down to protect the printed side until everyone has taken their seat. But that wouldn't help the OP as I think they are just too thin to work on grass. Unless the ground is hard perhaps - but if that was the case then there would be no need to mitigate heels sinking in.

Ok thank you. That’s my worry that it will pucker/get caught etc.
I found a place that can do it but it’s £500!

The venue have nothing! So odd!

    Marquee matting might work.

Hi Lauren, just been thinking, what about flower petals and get the heel caps for the bottom of the heels, I found these on amazon in bulk. If not, there's always the rattan material people use to place along a balcony wall, it's in most shops in the gardening section.... which is a roll out, however it looks very rustic so if this isn't your theme then I'm not sure if it'll help, sorry. But definitely have a look at the heel caps xx

I have seen the heel caps at weddings and they do work but can leave damage marks on your heels.

Hi Charlotte, I think the heel caps is a great idea, thank you. I’m getting a sample of the roll out aisles on Etsy sent out so maybe with heel caps it’ll be OK! X

Just case you haven't seen, PhotographybyBillHaddon, stated them heel caps leave damage marks on heels just as a warning, as I've said I haven't ever tried them but have had them suggested to me. Hope everything goes well with your planning. You'll have to let us know what the aisle runner is like. Maybe the zebra print you liked before???
    Best wishes

It is going to depend on how they are made, the bottom "2 pence size" disk needs to be hard plastic but if the rest of it is the same plastic then depending on the shape of your heel just by looking at them you can see the potential for the edge to scrape your heel at the top of the cap that slides over your heel.

I shot a wedding at a golf course that had to use them and the feedback was that yes they work but not good for your heels.

Maybe someone on here can come back with a different experience but its going to depend on the shape of your heel I think.

Thanks. I’ll probably just get them and try them out - I’d prefer to try the options pre-wedding!

Well, regarding that runner, I'd say go with what you like best. My fiance always told its your day, you plan it, long as there's some Scottish twists throughout, so I literally have planned the full thing, the only thing he requested to be altered is his buttoniere as it didn't have a thistle. We get married on the 23rd. Haha, so just go with it!!! Animal print, rustic theme.......glam and sparkles. Go with it. And enjoy!!! Xx
