Outdoor Wedding

jen52637, 5 December, 2008 at 16:59 Posted on Planning 0 10

Do you think September would be too cold to have an outdoor wedding? Just the ceremony itself would be outdoors (weather permitting of course) and then the meal etc would be indoors.

Apparently average temperature for Scotland in September is 13 degrees C. That doesn't seem very warm to me (but then my brain is possibly frozen due to the old weather we've been having recently)! ?

Hi Jen, didnt want to read and run, but if it was the begining of Sept, i wouldnt mind, but towards the end, that might be a little cold. However saying that, we are having an outdoor aspect to our wedding in May, and even then it can be cold or it can be warm, and the same goes for Sept.

Do bear in mind that it might be a little damp, so best thing to do is have a wet weather/freezing cold option that you could do at the last minuite.

    Hope this helps Dam xx

Its a hard one to say really, but you could always buy a nice coat in case it is warm. Im getting married in February & most of my pictures are going to be outside so I am in process of looking for a coat or bolero for while im outside if it is cold....but saying that a girl from work got married this February & she had a really warm day - well warm for February.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks for the replies!

I should have said we're planning on it being the very beginning of September in 2010. We will have a wet weather alternative just in case it rains, which let's face it, is pretty likely in Scotland!

I was just curious as to whether people have experience of outdoor weddings. I have done research on temperatures etc but 13 degrees doesn't really mean much to me, you know? I can't really judge if that's just nice or too cold. I know it's 3 degrees just now and way too cold to get married outside without a coat! I'm just not good at imagining what 10 degrees warmer would feel like! ?

    Hi ya

I think for you, you will be outside for the ceremony for 20 minutes max without a coat/wrap/cloak but your guests can wrap up. You can then wrap up after the ceremony for your pre reception but don't forget you may be outside in your dress for up to an hour more having photos.

13 degrees I would say is the fine for an outdoor wedding but I wouldn't want it to be any colder. It really depends on the wind chill too. If you are worried about people being chilly you can buy blankets from charity shops and have them on the seats or in a basket for people to put over their laps.

If you would like an outdoor wedding then I would just go for it. They are lovely. I've organised outdoor weddings but they have been in the summer and slightly (only just) warmer. Although this year with the weather we had as many contingencies in place as we would for a winter wedding!!!!

Ask your venue, they will be the best people to let you know.

And have a wet weather plan.

I have shot a couple of outdoor weddings and you cant really tell sometimes in Scotland, right to the last minute!

Make sure you tell your guests it may be outside as I know when I go to weddings I don't usually have a coat or anything warm with me because I can never find anything to match my outfit.

We're getting married on the 2nd of Oct next year outside (have back up plan too!) so reckon you'll be okay in Sept. As long as the guests know the service will be outside they can wrap up.

I'd say 13c would be ok, the only think to consider would be if you have very elderly relatives who might feel the chill a bit more ? I seem to remember at the beginning of september we were still having BBqs (we're in Glasgow) so you could be lucky and get a lovely day ?

Are you still thinking of Loch Lomond?

    Thank you! ?

We are still thinking of Loch Lomond- went to see Cameron House yesterday and fell in love! Think we've found our venue!

Haha, I know what you mean about BBQs! My Dad still BBQs into October, he just stands in the garage with his hat, scarf, and gloves while we all sit in the conservatory waiting for our food (and get pissed off if he dares to leave the door open and get us a little chilly)! ?
