'Pageboy' or 'Usher' for a 13 year old

*ROSSI*, 10 March, 2011 at 12:44 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi Girls,

I was wondering your opinion on this.... I'm having my Nephew as either a Pageboy or Usher at our wedding next May and as he will be 13 I'm not sure whether he should be a Pageboy or an Usher mainly due to him being that age. As far as responsibilities go, I know an Usher is meant to show people to their seats but he wouldn't have to do that as there is only close family (14 people) at the ceremony. Also, I'd like to be able to say to him this is what you're going to be helping with at the wedding as an Pageboy or Usher. What do you think, Pageboy or Usher and what could he do? Would really appreciate your help Smiley smile

Basing this on my own experiences of the 13-year-old boys I have known, I would say "usher". They like to feel grown-up, and "usher" sounds a lot more grown-up than "pageboy".

He could hand out orders of service and confetti maybe?

What about having him as 'ring bearer'?

Technically you can't be a page boy if you are over 10 years old! My son will be 13 at my wedding, he's taking the title 'man of honour' and escorting my bridesmaid.

Have you asked him what he's comfortable doing? Ask him if he wants to be a 'bridesmaid escort', ring bearer, man of honour, or usher. I think he's old enough to be consulted.

I agree with calling him an Usher. Whatever tasks he actually does on the day are irrelevant (well, not really, but you know what I mean!). At 13, he'll definitely not want to be branded a kid, so would prefer to be with the big boys.

He could hand out orders of service or confetti. Lots of people like to designate the first couple of rows in the church to particular family members. He'll know those people so can escort them to their seats.

My 14yr old daughter is a bridesmaid, and to help my son (who will be 12) be part of the wedding, we'll ask him to be an usher.

There probably isn't much "ushing" to do, but he's a bit too old to be a pageboy.

Our wedding is fairly small, so 2 bridesmaids, 1 best man, and Ryan as usher.

I can't find any official age range for a pageboy other than discussions on websites - there certainly no official rules, and just what is seen to be "normal".

I would say its a call based on the maturity of the child, for such a close family wedding, he should be fine as an usher.

My h2b's brother is 13 and is an usher, i think he'd be a bit embarrassed if i called him a page boy.

To be honest I cant see him actually doing anything really as we have 3 adult ushers to do the ushering!! Just getting him suited up and to make him know hes part of our day!

Our son is 7 and is our page boy although H2b calls him our best boy! He will walk our daughter/flower girl down the aisle and the bast man will have the rings.

I have a 13 year old son and I would say USHER no question ! He would be absolutely mortified to ba a page boy. My son is giving me with his 11 year old brother who would also hate to be page boy.

Usher. Im having my cousins son as Usher & he is 15 - I was her flowergirl so felt it appropriate to involve him. However he didnt want to do it himself so my 35 year old cousin is also usher.....we have 10 suits to hire! C'est La Vie!

Thank you all so much, this is why I love Hitched - so many nice people who can help! Think I've probably been trying to keep him as a little boy when actually he will be a teenager and so I definately agree that Usher is right and have got loads of ideas now on what he could do. He's staying at mine tomorrow night so I'll ask him then what he thinks he may like to do and go with that. Thanks so much, no more thinking over & over about it!!! Smiley smile xxx

Usher, and at 13 he is old enough to help with anything that you think of on the day. It will make him feel more important too.

Iv'e got one of those, and must say, he would run a mile at the thought of being a pageboy. A little more kudos with being an usher me thinks. That and he is 6 foot, so page boy just wouldn't wash IYKWIM.

Usher definantly. Turn it around and think if you would of been happy at 13 to be called a flowerGIRL rather than bridesmaid.

My 10yr old nephew is a usher.
