Pain killer advice, is it wrong to give mine to someone else?

monkey fingers, 1 July, 2008 at 21:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Mr MF is in awful pain, he has a tooth ache, he went to the emergancy dentist last night who told him he had an infection and prescribed antiobiotics.

He has been taking these as well as nurofen and also paracetamol.

None of these are touching the pain

Mr MF never complains about pain and hardly ever takes tablets so I know it must be bad.

I have so many pain killers that I have been given, do you think he would be safe to take some? I know you are not meant to give your medication to others, but really he is in awful pain.

The pain killer I am considering is my milder one- co codomol 30/500, I said possibly he could take one of these with one normal paracetamol.

What do people reckon? is it a real 'no no no' me giving him prescrition pain killers?

I also have tramadol, but know these can make people feel odd, so don't think they would be a good option.

I feel so guilty, I am sat here as high as a kite on fentanyl and morphine and he is in such pain (sorry about the bad spelling, I'll blame the medication but really it is because I am stupid)

He is going back to the dentist first thing in the morning.

Thank you for any advice

MF xxxx

(sorry for no icons, I am not very good at deciding which ones to use. so have decided to do without)

He should be fine with the 30/500 co-codamol, unless he has problems with codeine. You could certainly do the one co-codamol one paracetamol thing, that way it's not too much stronger than a couple of regular co-codamol tablets.

    Thanks Guys.

Ladelley, he doesn't think he has a problem with codeine, he also doesn't think the one with normal paracetamol will be enough as no over the counter pain killers have worked, I have told him to take two, but to expect to feel a bit lightheaded (I've not mentioned the fact he may need to eat baked beans for the next few days)

Also can I just have a very unreasonable rant! He promised to clean the house and change the sheets tonight, he hasn't yet and isn't likely to after taking my pain killers!

    Gggggrrrrr

    End of very unreasonable rant

Thank you Ladelley and Loobyg xx Loobyg I hope your husband feels better xxx

The one fab painkiller I found last year is Paramol. It's the strongest non-perscription painkiller you can get I think. I had to use it for a loose double tooth which had a huge abcess under it last year, and the mix of paracetamol and Ibuprofen didn't touch it. Paramol worked wonders.

I second the Paramol, its wonderful for toothache problems.

I know you should never, ever take other peoples prescription meds but I have taken Mr Noras when I'm desperate. His are fabulously strong and are the only thing to help sometimes.

No problem. It really was the only thing I found that helped. I was in so much pain, and my face became swollen along the jar line as the tooth/gum etc was so badly infected. I found Paramol helped me ride out the pain over a very desperate weekend last year.

This is what he's looking for - and it seems Boots may have 20% of it at the moment. They are quite dear compared to nomal pain relief tablets, but they are worth their weigh in gold:

The only thing that works for me tooth pain wise is paracetamol and codeine
