My passport has expired, would it best to apply for a new one after we're married before going on our honeymoon as otherwise I'd have the wrong name on it?

Depends how quickly you will need it to travel on. Mine expired and as we were not going away for a few months after the wedding I waited. Came back in 3 weeks but that was out of demand season.
