PCOS and nightmare skin.......

Evening

Just wondering what peoples experiences of PCOS are and if anyone's willing to share

I'm not yet diagnosed but am fairly certain I'm suffering (at the GPs AGAIN this Fri). I had to come off the combined pill due to high blood pressure last July. Blood pressure has stabilised and I am now taking the mini pill (Cerazette) and whilst I have finally settled with it in terms of break through bleeds, I am struggling with other unwanted aspects

I've had a small (but noticeable to me 7lbs) wait gain and my skin is now absolutely dire. At 32 I have the face of a 15 yr old with boil like spots which are deep rooted and scarring... I'm meticulous with my facial regime (whilst ensuringI don't over do it) but am really at the end of my tether. I've also noticed I'm a little furrier than before, which is also a huge pain in the rear

My GP discarded the possibility of PCOS outright when I 1st saw him and I think his view backed up by the reults of a relatively recent blood test which showed normal levels for everything inc thyroid. I've been 'pacified' with a 6 week course of erythromicin which I only agreed to take on the basis that in week 6 if there was no noticeable change I could request further bloods and be assured of a dermatology referral (I've been back and forth about my skin for the last 7 months).

I personally feel as though I am suffering as a result of coming off the combined pill. I'm really keen to know what other ways there are of managing without the pill which won't affect my blood pressure but will help my skin.

Sorry, self indulgent I know but it's really getting me down

I was diagnosed with PCOS about ten years ago and my most troublesome symptom was acne. I really sympathise, acne can make you so miserable and it's painful. The only thing that really worked for me was Dianette, but that may not be an option for you. I remember I had some cream on perscription, I think it was Retin A(?) and that helped. It made it worse to start as all the spots under the skin came out, but within about three weeks my skin was a lot clearer.

I found the mini pill made my skin a lot worse. I moved to the implant and things are more settled, but I think that's more my age than anything else.

Sorry I've not been much help, but you are not being self indulgent, it really can get you down. I hope you find something that works for you.

I have PCOS and one of my main symptoms is bad skin. Initially the dianette pill worked but that stopped after a few months and I'm not keen on hormonal contraception anyway. I found in the end the best thing liz earle skincare and some topical treatment prescribed from my GP (can't remember the name sorry). I'm pregnant now and my skin is as bad as ever ☹️ I need to resume my skincare regime I think and I'm not sure what else I can do but I know how embarrassing it is ?

'nice' to know I'm not alone then.... thanks all for your replies ?

I've tried the Liz Earle range but have found I prefer Dermalogica products and facials

time to take some GP based action methinks

H and I have also briefly discussed me coming off the mini pill too to see if that has any positive effect. My only concern is that this may then allow my migraines to sneak back in and become troublesome

Who'd have thought trying to feel and look 'normal' could be such a pain in the arse!

I'm going to book in for a crystal clear microdermabrasion facial on Saturday to cheer myself up a bit ?

Be good to hear from any medical bods who may be about too - thanks x
