Not always, but only only only IF they are really good (and obviously expensive) ones.

For example, in my case "ENH1" clearly says "I have £20K to spare on frivolities". However, "A14 ENH" says "I paid £200 for a pseudo-personalised plate to put on my Corsa".

I think the more exclusive ones would make me cringe more. If someone had that much to spend on a numberplate I'd think they needed to come into the real world.

I really don't understand why anyone would spend money on them. What is the point? I can think of a million things I would rather spend the money on.

Anyone else think of Reg? ?

Personally I don't see the point of paying an insane amount of money for one. Mine is slightly personal though, only because I have a new car and got to choose the plate from a list, so the end 3 letters are LRN (RN is my initials)

My dad and grandad have them, but they're like "normal" plates with their choice of letters and numbers IYSWIM. If you didn't know them, you wouldn't know they were personalised.

I don't get it myself but each to their own!

Oh yeah and my uncle has N20 and then his initials... again not something you would think was personalised unless you knew what he does for a living (guesses welcome... Footlong, have a go!)

I hate them. Someone I know has 'KI55 NEO' (His surname begins with Neo) on his Range Rover and I think it makes him look like an utter tool.

Is that not a 'real' number plate - as in an 11 plate that could have come with the car? I have a ST11 FHY on my street and I think it's 'real' - I'm totally childish and it makes me snigger!

So we think that it would be £250 to make me look like a d!ck then. And yes Footlong I drive a Corsa!!!! ?

Or that you *really* love the A14.

I'm afraid that in my book, owners of personalised number plates will be first against the wall come the revolution.

To me they say "I am so rich and stupid I can spend a lot of money on something that uis utterly useless"

    Judgemental? Me??

What I'd seen was: R14 KNS - is that totally duff? Which is kind of my nickname, but also 14 is my birthday.

I'm scraping the bottom of the barrell with ideas for birthday gifts!

Ah I hate them! Absolutely ridiculous waste of money in my opinion.

When worked in NZ one of my managers had a pink car with the registration "Barbie" ?. Since there's only about 4 million people in NZ you can buy pretty much whatever registration you want.

Almost embarrased to admit I have one but I believe it's subtle.

It's in the current format, an 03 plate and was originally on my 03 plate car. It's now on a 58 plate car but you wouldn't know that unless you know that the MKV Golf wasn't out in 03.

First 2 letters my first two initials, last 3 letters are the first 3 letters of my surname which happens to be the nickname that my close friends from school called me (and still do) & no, I won't be changing it when I get married. I'll still be known by that nickname to my school friends.

It does annoy me when people get plates and (illegally) change the spacing to make it look like a word (or often rude).

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't spend £20k ona license plate, that's too rich for me! But if I'd inherited Daddy's stately pile and drove a Veyron, £20k on a number plate would be a drop in the ocean.

But would single you out as not only rich but also a kn0b (see Reg for details) because you could do something worthwhile with your £20K.

They don't bother me but I wouldn't get one. I have friends who have the "normal" ones e.g a friend called Harriet who has HAZ and a friend whose nickname is Hedge has one with HEJ at the end.

I'm not sure, in those circumstances, I'd care what the plebs thought of me Smiley winking Also, my calendar would be full of charity luncheons, at £10k a ticket.

Not too keen but there is one going round near where I live. It's brilliant.

Its on a huge black range rover with tinted windows. The plate is STO7EN.

    Dentist or anaesthetist?

I'd never get one, myself. There are loads around my work on all the blacked-out rich *** cars, but I think they're pointless.

I've had one for years and I love it and don't really give a toss what anyone else thinks

I think it's pretty judgemental to say there are better things the money could have been spent on, I'm sure everyone buys things that other people think are pointless and a complete waste of money. It's not really anyone else's business what I spend my money on

My Dad has one that has been passed down the family, my grandad had it when my dad was at least a teenager, if not before, and my Dad will no doubt pass it down to my sister. Its not relevant to anything, just fun and quite cool IMO:
