Photography advice for late October wedding

HappyPinkDiamonds13554, 14 March, 2020 at 18:46 Posted on Planning 0

Evening all, my partner and I, are looking to get married late October and are thinking of a ceremony at 4pm, and we were trying to work out if this will make the photos potentially difficult in the fading light.

Is there anyone with experiences of weddings at this sort of time, and how much it may effect pictures?

We wouldn't want hundreds of photos, but would like a few nice ones however. Looking online, it says the sunset is approx 17:51 in late october.

Thanks in advance.

I am a full time professional wedding photographer and shot over 1000 weddings in 30 years and I do not mind admitting that, yes winter weddings definitely are difficult in fading light.

But all is not lost so long as you choose a photographer who has experience in winter weddings and can show you plenty of samples of weddings they have shot in those conditions, not just 1 or 2 fantastic looking art shots but a wider sample of a whole wedding and one at your venue even better.

I have a page on my website just for Winter and low light weddings here

If your wedding is a civil ceremony then you should be outside by 4.30 if its getting a little to gloomy then I would get some of just the two of you first so that you have at least some outside showing your venue. Then carry on with the rest of the shots inside.

Although late October the light that you have also depends on the weather on the day too, sometimes in deep winter it can be almost too dark all day.

Bridal prep shots are a good idea because you should be able to get outside when everyone is ready so you have some shots of your dress in natural light.
