Picking a venue / caterer - how does it work?!

Samantha, 5 June, 2023 at 15:14 Posted on Planning 0 2

Me & Fiancé know the type of venue we want and we want relaxed dining BBQ etc, how does it work when it comes to catering though. Some venues have a select partner you have to use but you can't taste the food before you book with the venue, tastings would be a few months afterwards - is that normal?

Others have preferred caterers maybe 4-5 which seems less risky, but again not sure if you can taste before you commit

Any advice would be a big help!

Tastings are for finalising your menu so that's why they are only after you have booked. To decide whether to book a caterer, I would use reviews to assess the quality of their food and discuss your ideas with them to see if they understand your vision.

    Hi,

We weren't giving a food tasting by the caterers selected by our venue. We were told that they weren't posh enough. Also told by venue organiser when I asked them if there would 2 wine glasses per person for red and white wine that they weren't Claridge's!
