Pirates of the Caribbean party theme - ideas for food/games etc

Diamond Star Halo, 14 January, 2009 at 21:11 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

I'm just starting to plan my son's birthday party, and he's asked for a Pirates of the Caribbean themed party. I quite enjoy making an effort for these things, especially if fancy dress is involved, so I'm quite happy with this idea.

We'll be doing this ourselves in our village hall, so there will need to be plenty of party games to keep them occupied (they are age 5/6). I'll do some sort of treasure hunt type thing, although it will probably not be an actual hunt around the hall (not enough places to hide things) - I'll do something with a map maybe.

Food-wise, I thought it would be fun to make it pirate themed as much as possible. So far I have thought of doing jelly boats, and mini pizzas (which will be called 'pizzas of eight'). Then I'm a bit stuck.

If anyone's feeling creative and has any ideas that would be great.

Ah, I thought it was maybe an adult party, but I guess rum isn't appropriate for a children's one!

You should do some kind of pirates grog - mix lemonade with different types of fruit juice and see what weird and wonderful colour you can come up with, or maybe a fruit juice punch, with fruit floating in it - to ward off the scurvy. Ships biscuits? Do shortbread with a hole made in each one, then secure jelly worms coming out of the holes with icing - I'm reliably informed that most pirate fare had weevils in. Chocolate coins are a must too.

You could get something like this: http://cottagecooks.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=246 and make sandwiches, but cut them out into pirate shapes (and obviously biscuits too).

    Cake wise - this: https://debbiebrownscakes.co.uk/50_easy_party_cakes/pages/treasure_map_jpg.htm or https://debbiebrownscakes.co.uk/50_easy_party_cakes/pages/skull_and_crossbones_jpg.htm orhttp://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&q=treasure+chest+cake&gbv=2 or https://www.cakecentral.com/gallery/i/780893/shipwreck-instructions-from-debbie-brown

Games - pin the parrot on the pirate (the child who gets it nearest his shoulder wins)? Captain's Coming (you know, the one where you shout instructions like port, starboard, bow, stern climb the rigging, scrub the decks etc), What's the time Cap'n Jack? (like Mr Wolf of course), or dodgeball - but with a black ball so it looks like a cannonball. Captain Simon says? Your pass the parcel could have chocolate coins in between the layers and a POTC action figure in the middle. Also, if you check partypieces.co.uk you're sure to find pirate themed tableware/loot bags etc, although I have to admit that I've stopped giving our goody bags, and I just give all the children a piece of cake and a present worth £1 - usually stuff I've bought cheap in Tesco over the preceeding months.

You will definitely need a prize ham.

If you don't know why, then you shouldn't be holding a pirate party.

    Aaaaaar !
