planning bits for a wedding abroad?

Chucklevision, 25 June, 2014 at 21:35 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 8

Erm... So we've booked our wedding in Sicily through Thomsons & we're just (impatiently) waiting for the date to be confirmed. Once that's done I guess it's planning central but I'm not quite sure where to get started. In my head I'm thinking I need to sort out ceremony stuff, a meal after the ceremony, my dress, groomswear, rings, maybe flowers & cake. We're only inviting family & I'm not having bridesmaids. But I can't help but I think I'm missing many things.

So my stupid question for the day, for all you lovely overseas brides - what planning bits are you doing?

Hey. Im in the same boat as recently booked a weeding with Thomsons for Cyprus. We are awaiting confirmation of the date which I have been told can take 8 weeks!!! once this has been confirmed I have been told the wedding coordinator will be in touch. Im a really impatient person and cant wait for them to get in touch so I can book the reception venue, flowers etc. I feel like all the planning has kinda been taken out of my hands =( when are you getting married??x

July 2015, we've requested 3rd, 2nd & 6th -you? I booked at the end of May so still waiting, I've tried chasing them up a couple of times just to confirm they've received my booking form & I can't get a straight answer- I'm now a bit paranoid they've overlooked it & I'll end up waiting longer for my date. Hopefully not though.

Only things I can think of are boxing your dress up for a flight but most dress shops do that. Ensuring passports are in date, invitations once the dates confirmed, wedding website if you want a way of keeping guests up to date (strongly recommend gettingmarried.co.uk) transport to reception/airports and photographer. Also any bits if your having a party back home?

It sounds lovely. My brother went to a wedding in Sicily recently and he had an amazing time.

I got married abroad and the big things to remember l found were; deciding on how you are going to transport the dress, making sure you have the legal side of your wedding under control and bringing the right documents. Sourcing hair and make up people, photographers can take longer -make sure you do lots of research. Oh and making sure you don't get strap marks if you are wearing a strapless dress.

Hey ladies x i am in the early stages of planning, myself and h2b are having the home v away debate. I have seen a few packages through thomson and thomas cook that have caught my eye in the brochure. Can u just ask now that you have booked do the travel agents give you a quote for the reception to add on such as meals or a bit of entertainment so that u know what ur booking roughly at the time?xx

Did they really? I wasn't told/offered any of that when I booked, I was just told to wait for the date to be confirmed & for the wedding coordinator to be in touch. Maybe because it's different countries.

BTW had my date confirmed - 3rd July. Took just over a month. Hopefully you'll get yours soon too. Xx
