Playlist instead of band/dj - help!

Jessica, 3 January, 2024 at 14:57 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi everyone. I'm getting married in 2 months (eek!) and we have decided to create our own playlist for the evening instead of hiring a band/DJ - we're both passionate about music and would rather have control over what's being played. I'm confident that we can curate a really good playlist, I'm just not sure on the logistics of it. I just wondered if anyone else is doing this and how you're going about it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on your wedding! Going with a curated playlist is a great choice, it makes the reception feel incredibly personal.

For logistics, the most crucial tip is to have a dedicated person manage the tech. Use a laptop with all music downloaded (never stream) and connect it directly to a proper speaker system your venue provides or you rent. Create two separate playlists: one long, relaxed mix for dinner/background, and a carefully sequenced one for dancing where you control the energy flow.

It’s all about that seamless, enjoyable flow of entertainment. Getting that right is similar to the smooth, engaging experience you find when you play online on a well-designed platform.

First off, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Going with a custom playlist is a great idea if you both love music and want full control. A few practical tips: use a dedicated device (laptop or tablet) in airplane mode to avoid call/text interruptions, download your playlist offline, assign a tech-savvy friend to monitor volume and transitions, and always have a backup device ready. Also, test the venue's sound system beforehand. On a lighter note, if you're looking for fun entertainment to keep guests engaged during downtime or after-party moments, you can try teen patti spin for a lively card game experience. Wishing you a fantastic wedding day!

Creating your own playlist instead of hiring a band or DJ can work really well if you plan. Organizing the music in phases from relaxed background songs early on to high-energy tracks later helps keep the flow of the evening smooth. Make sure all music is downloaded offline, test your sound setup in advance, and have a backup device ready. It’s also a good idea to assign one trusted person to manage the playlist on the day and include a mix of genres and eras so guests of all ages enjoy the music. For planning inspiration and browsing ideas online, sites like kfcmenuscanada.com can also be helpful when you’re already organizing details ahead of time.

Great choice. A well-curated playlist can be just as fun as a DJ, and you'll save money too. A few quick tips:

    1. Use a laptop with Spotify or Apple Music and keep it offline so Wi-Fi issues don't kill the mood.

    2. Enable "crossfade" (around 5-8 seconds) to eliminate awkward silence between songs.

    3. Ask a responsible friend to keep an eye on the laptop and adjust volume if needed.

    4. Have a backup plan — download the playlist to a second device just in case.

    5. Don't forget slow songs, crowd pleasers, and a few wildcards.

On a completely different note, I recently came across a site that impressed me with how clean and hassle-free it is, no clutter, no confusion, just smooth entertainment. If you ever need a quick break from wedding planning, check out win pkr . Surprisingly well put together.
