Please help - Who should match Grooms suit?

2026Bridetobe, 28 June, 2025 at 15:34 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 8

Hey everyone! Sorry, I feel completely out of my depth and wonder if anyone can help...

What are people doing / what is meant to happen with the grooms suit?

We are not having any ushers/bridesmaids - I am just having my niece as a Maid of honour and Groom will just have his best mate as his Best man.

Should Groom and Best man have the same suit and shirt and maybe just different ties? Is my dad as father of the bride also meant to have the same as the best man or different? Isd anyone else on the grooms side like his dad ALSO meant to match anyone?

Im getting so confused with it all Smiley surprise

Thanks,

Entirely up to you! We've got suits for our dads, brothers and best man. They're similar but groom is subtly different.

You're not alone—this is a common wedding planning puzzle! Typically, the groom and best man wear matching suits, with the groom standing out via a different tie, waistcoat, or boutonniere. Fathers don’t need to match the wedding party, but their outfits should complement the overall style and formality. The key is coordination, not uniformity—so go with what feels right for your day! paybyplatema

Great questions and you're definitely not alone in wondering about all this! Wedding attire traditions can feel more confusing than they need to be, especially when you're going for a more low-key or streamlined wedding party like yours.

The groom’s suit is usually the starting point — it should feel a little special or distinct, but it doesn’t have to be dramatically different .

    • He might wear the same suit as the Best Man but with a slightly different tie, waistcoat, pocket square, or boutonnière (for example, a different colour or fabric).

    • Alternatively, he could have a different suit in the same colour family (e.g., navy three-piece for him, navy two-piece for the Best Man).

It depends on yourself. As long as the clothes are not too prominent, that's fine.

You’re not alone—this is a common question during wedding planning! Traditionally, the groom and best man wear matching suits, with the groom distinguished by a different tie, waistcoat, or boutonniere . Fathers don’t need to match the wedding party exactly, but their attire should complement the overall style and level of formality.
