***POLL - how much are you happy to spend on wedding favours ***

Tinbeetle, 29 January, 2013 at 00:55 Posted on Planning 0 26

Ladies, how much would you be willing to spend on personalised, handmade wedding favours? And would you bother at all? What wedding favours are you having, if any?

Best of luck for your big day xx

Hi chick :0) we are on a tight budget with approx 85 guests including 18 young children and I didn't want to spend more than £1 each - really tight of me I know lol, but they each get favours off the caterer plus I think it's just a token gesture. Afterall, it used to be the cake that was served as favours or just sugared almonds. I think too much money gets spent trying to impress really. So, I just happened to come across some seriously stunning boxes in the card factory shop in town which costed out at around 15p each!!!! For the Kids, I'm going to the wholesalers and buying penny sweets related to weddings.... Jelly rings, foam hearts etc. For the adults, homemade shortbread for the adults then additional one perfect family of a small packet of poppy seeds with a poem as to why the flowers are particularly important to us (they were my MILs faves but she sadly passed away in an accident just as me and oh got together). So it should cost a total of around £60 to do all favours :0) I do like a bargain!! Have you any idea what your budget is or what you'd like to do? My best friend did mini jars of homemade jam and a heart shaped shortbread.... Beaut!! Xx

We've spent £200, which is far more than I'd spend on actual favours but we've donated the money to a family friend who's little boy has a number of health problems. They're trying to get enough money together to buy him a special trike as he can't ride a normal bike.

If we were buying actual favours I'd spend £1.50 max per guest

We've not even talked about favours, but I don't think we'd bother with something personalised or handmade unless it was something edible. In which case i'd probably give it a bash myself. I think i'd rather put the money towards a free bar or something as I think my guests would appreciate that more.

Theoretically if we were doing them, i'd definitely not spend more than £1 per guest.

We ended up getting a discount on good old boring chocolates, so cost about 62p per person! bargain. But we were going nto spend up to about £1 per person. If we could have found personalised favours we liked (had lots of ideas for women but none for men so didnt in the end) we would have spent up to about £2 per person maximum.

I want to spend around £2-£3. Ideally I want to do a couple of those coloured macaroons in a bag with name tag but not sure. Getting married in Scotland so either that or tablet. I'd prefer something my cake lady could sort for me as I'm not good at making my own stuff.

ETA - when I say I 'want' to spend £2-3 I'd more than happy spend less! This is the most I'd spend

    Thanks for your replies.

Mum-wants-a-hat - I actually got married in 2011 to my fabulous hubby and we now have a 6 month old daughter. The reason I'm asking is, I made our wedding favours and a few people said how good they were, so while I'm on maternity I'm thinking of seeing if it could be a hobby that makes some money.

vintage84 I was thinking about £1.50 / £2 - they would be personalised with your name and wedding date, match your wedding 'theme' and contain your choice of sweets - do you think that still sounds like a fair price?

2013_bride - great idea, if they win do they pay for your honeymoon heehee!

Mrs*M - just a thought, would you go for a girlie afternoon tea and make your own favours if someone supplied all the materials and taught you how to do it?

Depends on how big the package was, do you have a pic you could flash?

See I would love to do this, I'm in England though and all my friends and family are in Scotland and that is where we are getting married so its more a time and convenience thing. It's quite tricky fitting everything in

Wasn't going to bother but have decided on chocolates as the wrapping matches our theme. Just under £1 per person.

Im making keyring charms for everyone. we're having a "sweetie" theme, rather than a candy bar our centrepieces will be bowls of sweets, the keyring will have beads matching our colour scheme and a fimo charm in the shape of a retro sweet (shrimps, bananas, white mice, mushrooms etc) in an organza bag with a hadwritted luggage tag. Its cost bout 45p per person. also ordering pic n mix bags so after dinner [eople can mingle and fill their bags from the centre pieces Smiley smile xxx

In that case hun, the price you have suggested is too cheap!! They would be bespoke hand made rather than a bride doing her own so need to command a price that reflects that. Xx

We spent nothing as we didn't have favours.

I don't actually like them, I'm afraid, and have seen some shockers that the "grateful" guests are supposed to take home!

I'm thinking of putting as few seeds in a bag with a little card attached with what flower it is and our wedding date/names. The seeds will come from my nanas garden. She takes alot of pride in her garden and to me it means alot that she would let me have them.

I have managed to do mine super cheap! We have a sweet factory outlet in liverpool and got lots of sweets for £8.50, I made cones out of paper and filled them with sweets wrapped in organza. Made 130 for around £20!! They look really good too!

Ive had my favours delivered... we had trolley tokens for the women from cancer research, tie pins for the teenage girls

for the men we have Styrofoam planes... figured the guys will forget to take theirs home so something for them to mess about with and be big kids(our reception is at Brooklands Museum)

no more than £1 spent on each person, we have lost family to cancer so wanted to remember them but also have my dad survive cancer.
