Pork pie accompaniments?

Flump, 5 November, 2008 at 11:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 17

I bought a hayuge Cumberland Pork Pie at the farmers market this weekend, and it's still sat in the fridge waiting to be consumed. What on earth can I serve it with for dinner? Or should I just eat a big chunk of it on its own, builder-styleeee? ? I was thinking maybe doing a Ploughman's style affair, but it's a bit cold for that.

Any bright ideas purlease? ?

I would have suggested ploughmans or have it as a snack/supper with lovely pickles/chutneys, cheeses and french stick.

Oh I love Pork Pie but it's sooooooooo fattening.

You need Holio - she'd have the answer. I think I'd eat it builder style .. without even a plate.

In your hand, plate to catch crumbs, no additions whatsoever, you just need to enjoy it in all its natural beauty.

Warm, with mushy peas and mint sauce would be the only acceptable way to serve it in my house. Yum.

Jacket pot and some salad. I'd also make a sauce to go with it, from mayonnaise and English mustard mixed together. This is our family's traditional accompaniment, because of course PPs aren't nearly lardy enough ?

For me it would have to be a big wedge of it served with pickled onions and maybe a bit of mustard.

    I love pork pie ?

Beer! I love a good pork pie with some bitter.

I would say lightly dressed green salad, some nice picked onions, and some onion or tomato chutney. And a slice of mature cheddar.

I definitely can't handle a spud with it at well, but the mayo & mustard combo sounds fab. And def a chunk of cheddar! I have some balsamic pickled onions too, hmmmm ?

Ooh I have a bottle of posh dry cider that I bought to make Dorset Apple Cake with, I could have that instead of beer?

    Thanks everyone! ?
