Poss stupid road markings question

Moglie, 2 May, 2008 at 16:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I have just come home and there is a new single white line outside my house. I think this means no parking but I'm not sure now[:I] If it does then it means I can no longer park outside my house so maybe I should have been informed of something like this?

So what does it mean? I've googled white line road marking but can only see reference to white lines in the middle of the road.

Aren't lines on the road usually yellow? Do you live by a crossing or a school - would the lines be white in that case?

It's in the same place as a single yellow line but it's white. I live near a speed bump which had a white line on it but now it's been extended in both directions.

Just looking now for somewhere to call as don't want to leave car on road in case I get a ticket.

    ?

We have ones near home and they are just to mark the edge of the road for drivers to make it easier to stay in the road and not veer towards the ditches IYKWIM

Yes they are for no parking. The road our local primary school is on has them over every driveway.

Phone your local council roads dept - they'll tell you what it's for

This also says it is just an Edge Line, with no parking restrictions

If its like the one we are going to have painted in front of our drive its a deterrant, to stop people parking there but I don't think its illegal to park over one?

Thanks all, I think maybe after reading all your posts that it's an edge line to stop drivers wandering onto the pavement where there is a dropped kerb followed by a speed hump that is the full width of the road.

I don't have to park on the road but often the road is too busy for me to reverse up the drive.

    Thanks for all your help
