Postponing wedding

Hello, in need of a bit of advice. My partner and I have been together almost 10 years and got engaged 2 years ago. Since getting engaged our relationship has changed and become very up and down; he has struggled in work and has been in and out of jobs which has been quite unsettling. I love him dearly and he tells me he struggles being around others, hence why he is in and out of work but my family don't understand this.

I have found it quite embarrassing as we were due to get married this year and had sent out save the dates and had to tell family and friends it's postponed to next year. Everyone is now asking when it's going ahead and I don't know what to say. We booked a date but I'm having doubts.

My question is- all our suppliers have been postponed until next year but I'm wondering, if we were not to go ahead is it best to give 6 months notice? Don't want to be charged full costs from each supplier.

Also, I would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation. As mentioned I love my partner dearly but he often has meltdowns which can be very distressing and its making me question if I can marry him as its affecting my mental health.
