Pregnant and wedding in 3 months! Dress help please

Cara, 21 March, 2024 at 09:09 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 4
Hi guys

I'm 14 weeks pregnant, which I'm absolutely stoked about. We are eloping for our wedding to Florida, and will be just the 2 of us and a set of parents.
I'd love a proper bridal dress with lots of tulle. I find all the maternity dresses to just be maxi dresses with empire lines. I really don't want this, but I'm clueless as to what to go for size wise. Do I go 2 sizes up? Has anyone else had this experience of being nearly 7 months pregnant and marrying in a non maternity gown? Any advise?! I feel so stuck.
Thanks so much everyone x

At this stage, you're going to have to go for either a mail order/high street dress or a second hand/sample sale one. Your best bet is probably going to be to contact a local supplier that either has a big sample sale on or that specialises in second hand - that way, you can get to try on a number of different styles, plus they should also know what will work for your baby bump.

I know some stores have fake bumps that you can strap on so that you can see what a dress will look like when you are x months pregnant, so you could ask.

If you're not happy with empire line, then you probably need to look at corset style so that it doesn't matter if you expand a bit more than expected - you don't want to get anything that needs to fit exactly!

Lots of brides get married in regular gowns at 6–7 months pregnant — you definitely don’t need to stick to maternity styles. The safest option is to choose a dress with a softer waist (A-line or tulle skirt works great) and order 1–2 sizes up so there’s room for your bump to grow. A good seamstress can then adjust it closer to the wedding. Plenty of people do this successfully, so you’re not stuck at all — you can absolutely have the dreamy tulle dress you want.

You definitely don’t have to wear a maternity dress if you want full tulle — plenty of brides go for regular gowns while pregnant. At around 7 months, the safest bet is choosing a dress with a stretchy bodice, corset back, or A-line/ball gown silhouette so a seamstress can adjust it easily. Rather than jumping two sizes up, most people size up 1 size and let the seamstress add room where needed.

If you want lots of tulle without the “maternity maxi” look, Azazie has quite a few lightweight ball gowns and A-line styles that work really well for bumps, and everything is made to order, so sizing is easier to control. You can browse here: www.azazie.com

You’re not stuck — you have more options than it feels like! Enjoy the Florida elopement ❤️
