Present price for the bride and groom

Fizz, 22 January, 2025 at 17:13 Posted on Etiquette and Advice 0 2

Hello all,

I'm not getting married. I can't seem to tell the website that!

I am the aunt of the bride. I love her very much and see her every few weeks.

The bride and groom have lived together for a few years, and inherited lots of items so there is nothing they need or want.

Having to help clear elderly relatives houses they are painfully aware that they do not want to aquire clutter.

So they are asking for money as gifts towards the cost of their honeymoon which will be fairly modest and in this country.

I am living on a small widows pension, and PIP. I have a small amount of savings in National savings.

I want to be as generous as I can, but obviously money is a worry. I also do not want to disappoint the couple and I want to express my love for them.

I just dont know how much is appropriate. £5, £50, £500, £5000. Hopefully not £5000!

What do you think please?

Thank you

They shouldn't be 'disappointed' by any gift you give - just knowing that you care about them will be enough. Give what you can manage comfortably without causing yourself any financial worry - and if that is just a wedding card, then that is absolutely fine.

I believe a thoughtful amount within your budget would be ideal. Since the couple is requesting contributions for their honeymoon, even a small donation of £20-£50 would likely be very welcomed. The number is unimportant; what matters is the love and thought that went into the gesture. They will undoubtedly understand and appreciate whatever you can manage!
