Price of Ceilidh band in Glasgow

GBM1975, 14 June, 2008 at 18:47 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi,

Getting married in Glasgow later in the year and have found an available Ceilidh band for £700, they played at a friend's wedding in 1999 and were fantastic then, so I hope they will good now. Snag is we no longer live in Scotland so seeing any bands in action before the date is going to be v. tricky, hence I'd like to go with one that i've heard before / had recommended. In my eyes, this one fits the bill, but my boyfriend thinks £700 is too expensive, as his brother hired a ceilidh band for less than £300 for his wedding in Wales four years ago. I reckon £700 in Glasgow city in 2008 is pretty much the going rate. Anyone know better?

thanks,

Gillian

    I think £700 is fab. I'd expect to pay more like £1000 - £1200.

We paid £695 for our Ceildh band 2 years ago (2 years ago tomorrow actually, scary) and that was a lot cheaper than any other bands we looked at.

The band we got were The Currie Brothers http://www.curriebrothers.co.uk/ and they were fantastic.

I think they were so 'cheap' is that there is only 3 of them in the band (though you would never know by their music). My sister on the other hand had a 7 piece band who cost her £1300!

I think £700 is pretty good - how much coverage will they give? Will you have to get a DJ on top of that to cover their breaks etc? A good band is worth it's weight in gold I think when it comes to 'making' a good wedding ?

    WSS.

I can heartily recommend Kilter (www.kilter.co.uk), fantastic musicians and rather tasty in a kilt too! I'm pretty sure they provide disco music too but you'd need to check. What venue are you in if you don't mind me asking?
