Probably a really silly question but can you dye cream shoes white?

boogiebelle, 3 October, 2008 at 16:34 Posted on Planning 0 5

I got some bargain wedding shoes and they are a little bit too cream for my dress which is diamond white.

Can you dye cream shoes white?

If so, what is the best way to do it? What is the best dye to get?

TIA?

Yeah, they are too creamy. Not sure about the material, they are kind of a silky satin. I could be completely wrong with that though.

Are you going to see them under your dress?????

I used to work in a bridal shoe shop and you cant dye shoes white, only bleach and that can ruin them or bring up the glues under the fabric...sorry.

Even dying specialists find this tricky I'm afraid! Rainbow Club do a bespoke white hand colouring service on their own shoes, but I don't think they do it with other brands (and I haven't tried it yet, so not sure how it would work for a diamond white dress).

Some brands don't really dye at all, even to colours - most of the bridal brands are ok (Rainbow Club, Pink, Meadows etc), but the high street shoes often don't dye so well.

To be honest, we normally recommend ivory shoes with a diamond white dress - white usually looks too white, and the shoes aren't seen enough for it to matter if they're half a shade darker! However, some bridal shoes I've seen are really quite creamy - almost a really pale gold - and those would look too creamy with diamond white.

Bleach would leave a yellowy tinge anyway if my work trousers are anything to go by!!

I had a diamond white dress and my shoes were white. I think white would be better than cream. After the wedding I got my shoes dyed black so I could wear them. Try www.barbaran.co.uk thats who dyed my shoes and they were great.
