I am gobsmacked - we were approached to do this show last year and boy am I glad we declined straight away.

I've noted all the suppliers name and put them in our address book with a big fat NO against them!

I'm really sorry - at what point do people like the Hipnotist think that this is going to do his business any good - what a w*****r. I've now picked myself up from behind the sofa and am convinced this is all a wind up!!!

Rest assured that not all wedding suppliers are like this!!!

    Bloody hell

It's maybe people who aren't in the business any more telling about the tricks that go on! Let's face it, the word WEDDING in front of anything, be it dress, cake, car, flowers etc and you can multiply the cost by many times and brides or families would just pay up!!!!

The bar man said weddings are a gold mine!!!!!!!! Look at the dreadful swapping champagne for cheaper sparkling wine, or swapping the labels around (these days you can print your own and stick on) and the old trick of covering up the bottle/label of the cheaper stuff with a napkin!!!! You order £20 bottles and end up drinking £3.99 from the local Spar shop according to the waitress!!!!!!

I watched it absolutely gobsmacked and can honestly say in all the years I have been in Business & the venues, and professionals I have worked with have never behaved in that way.

To say that we all put the prices up because it is a wedding is unfair, we don't charge anymore becaues of the W word, I even take my Brides to the wholesalers!!

I think the so called professinals on that programme if they are still in business have just shot themselves in the foot.

Claire - if you believe that this practise is widespread then you are mistaken. ITV made good telly last night in that they found the underlife of the wedding trade and tarred everyone with their brush. For people like me who work hard for what we do and always always put our clients first because they are our livelihood its saddening to see.

If you ask any of the HIBs on this board, you'll no doubt find that word-of-mouth recommendations are what they thrive on. Testimonials from previous clients are also worth 10s if not 100s of repeat jobs. So why would any of us do things like those that were portrayed on that program.

I charge EXACTLY the same prices for weddings as I do for birthday parties as I do for corporate entertainment. The only time I vary the cost is for a charity gig and guess what, the price goes down.

By the way, you don't seem to have introduced yourself?

Completely agree Tony, I don't even charge for Charity events and have clients who will testify to this. Also as you say almost 90% of my business is by recommendation and not through advertising.

ITV picked the worst of the bunch to make good viewing and portrayed all of the Wedding Industry in the worst light they could.

I too was absolutely gobsmacked that these people had agreed to do the show and had said what they said!
They have completely shot themselves in the foot......what bride who saw that program is ever going to book them? Especially as their name was on the screen so it was easy to google them!

The photographer/videographer who said 'weddings give you a great way to show brides how much you hate them!' works in my area. I have to say i have worked with him once and he was completely arrogant and his work was very old fashioned......so brides are better off not booking him anyway!

I watched the makeup artist with interest, as that's what i do, and what he was saying about sticking dog hair to a grooms chin was SO ridiculous it had to have been made up! I googled him and he doesn't even have any brides mentioned at all on his website......so i think they probably asked him to do the show as they couldn't find anyone else to do it!!!!!!!!!

I didn't see this but it sounds fairly hideous??!

We're not getting good press are we?! If its not folk on here (well, one 'folk') telling those of us who run a business from home that we're not a "real" business, its idiot programmes tarnishing the business we chose to work in!

    <sigh>

Any chance of someone PM'ing me the list of businesses who were featured?! Obviously don't want to give them any publicity on here but would be interested to hear who would agree to do such a programme??! Wonder if it'll be repeated on ITV 2 ... although not sure I'd want to watch it - might just get me too 'grrrrr'.

Ah yes, the wedding word = double your prices' debate ... gotta love that one huh?! ?

It did say in the tv mag (repeated on ITV2) allthough it did not give a date!

Who cares what other people (folk) say, as long as you and your respective customers are happy with the service you provide, that says a real business to me!?

I never seen this but would be interested in watching what people think they can get away with...putting dog hair on a grooms face!?! that has puzzled me, what would the benefit of that be?

It's such a pity that there are people like this out there that would give the good people in your business a bad name...guess it's like that in all professions ☹️ and for those who work from home....good on you for being able to balance life, a "normal" job and everything else that goes with it ?

OK I admit I am the wa***er hypnotist who was on the programme. I can't believe people actually think what was said on the programme was true. It's like believing rubbish printed in a newspaper.

I have believe it or not had a lot of bookings on the strength of the programme ( all be it not for weddings! ? ) In this day and age and recession, as a self employed entertainer, as they say any publicity is good publicity I could not have turned the programme down and it was actually made in 2007.

I will however apologise for coming over as an uncaring tw*t and once again assure you I was actually talking out of my backside.

The programme was so poor that they couldn't even spell my name right on screen and put it as Shaun not Sean.

Good luck to all of you brides and bridegrooms and have a great day.

    Cheers

    Sean aka Mickey Take
