Pure white roses?

boogiebelle, 16 August, 2008 at 13:12 Posted on Planning 0 7

I went to meet with a florist yesterday and I want a bouquet that has pure white roses and red gerberas.

I was told that I wouldn't be able to get pure white roses - is this true?

Just needed others views as I thought it was possible and will shop around if I can, but if not, don't want to waste my time.

Thank you

    Thank you.

She said that there isn't a rose that is pure white. She said there is a rose that is near white but is more ivory than white. I thought you could get them so that is why I got confused.

I would agree with your florist - absolute pure white is almost impossible and it would be a very brave florist who would be prepared to guarantee this!

White roses are by nature not diamond white bright - they are off white and usually have a tinge of green shading too. White roses are beautiful by nature and that's the way they grow. For an absolute diamond bright white, you would be looking at silk flowers although I very rarely get asked for these because they are very cold looking and not very flattering to be honest.

I agree that I would never guarantee a pure white rose. Having said that, altough white roses tend to be off-white they are certainly more white than ivory. As Rainbow Florist has said, you'll often have a green tinge to a white rose too, especially the guard petals.

Another wedding florist here and I would also not ever guarantee pure white in a rose, there are a number of varieties of almost white roses, but the exact shades depends on how open they are, the colour varies from bud stage to fully open in every variety.

I think you need to see some named varieties like Akito/ Avalanche/ F White/ Bianca etc and then you will see what we mean.

This may show you how they are white on the outside petals but in the cetre where they are tighter packed they can look more ivory, especially in photos.
