Quick Q - meeting the registrar

Melancholie, 30 April, 2008 at 23:28 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hitched to do list is telling me I'm overdue for meeting the registrar and discussing music/readings. How soon did/will you guys meet the registrar and did you ring them for the appointment or did they write to you saying it was time you had one?

?

    Hi there

I'm getting married in August and had a meeting in February to sort out music and hyums and then final one beginning of April. I thought this was really early though!

We get married August 2nd and haven't had any contact with the registrar since the letter confirming our booking, which was back in January.

I really wouldn't panic, we were told that we could change anything we like up about the week before the wedding. If your worried just give them a call. I guess mine was just extra organised ?

When i got the letter confirming the date and time from the registrar, the letter also said to call to make an appointment to meet.

so, when i called the registrar said they prefer to meet only 4 weeks before the wedding - max...

so dont worry about it (this was hampshire by the way)....

We are the 21 June 08 and have just booked an appointment on the 17 May to go through details.

I phoned her to book it as our weekends are really filling up now.

She said to have a think about vows, readings, music etc but we didnt have to decide straight away and could change it all the day of the wedding if we wanted to.

    She was really nice.

In order to meet the registrar who will be doing our service we have been told to call 6 weeks before as they will have done the calendar then, we can book a meeting when we call for anytime betwen then and the wedding.

We won't be meeting our registrar at all until the day...we just have to tell them our readings etc over the phone!

We get married in 4 weeks and met ours yesterday. I had to ring a couple of weeks ago and make an appt, as they don't assign each wedding to a registrar any further forward than that in our area.

Not all registration districts have meetings with the bride/groom before the ceremony. Some districts go through everything when you give notice and ask for paperwork to be returned some time before the date.

We getting married 28th July. We can call to make an appointment to meet the registrar from about 12th May, before that they don't know which registrar will be doing our ceremony so who we need to meet. We have to have the form about readings and music etc with them by 4 weeks before the ceremony, so we've got a window of about a month in which to meet them. We have to call them, they wouldn't have written to us, they don't even write to remind you when the fee is due (don't know what they do if you forget and miss the deadline!). But they've otherwise been very helpful and friendly.

Glad to hear that - we just have a form to send to our registrar with the details (and money) and then see them on the day.

I suddenly panicked when I saw that people were meeting their registrar beforehand - I thought I had missed something!!

Gave notice in London and getting married in W. Yorks, so that doesn't apply here. Thanks though.

In these circumstances those districts which don't see the bride/groom before the day will post out a pack after notice has been given with a covering letter containing instructions and forms to be returned.

Well we didn't get that, so I guess Wakefield do meetings! Will dig out the letter they sent confirming the booking and check what it said, but I'm 99% certain they didn't mention when the meeting would be or who should contact to arrange it.
