Rainbow Club shoes - anyone tried to dye themselves?

Fozzy Bear, 6 March, 2009 at 11:26 Posted on Planning 0 8

this is my dress, the colour is "spun gold". However, I have Ivory Rainbow Club shoes - has anyone even attempted to dye them at home with a Dylon kind of dye?

How did it go? Is it worth the risk?

I wouldn't risk it tbh, rainbow are lovely shoes and it would be a shame to risk it. John Lewis do a specific rainbow shoe dyeing service you could take them there, you could contact rainbow themselves as one of the ideas about having a dying service was so that brides could love their shoes again and they wouldn't be wasted on just one day!

Thanks Tahdah (you're not a Virgin Vie lady with a name like that are you?)

Do you have any idea how long it takes / how much it costs. We only decided to get married a few weeks ago and the date is booked for June 20th this year, hence the (probably silly) idea to buy dye my own!

I am having my BM rainbow club shoes dyed. The shop where I got them are arranging it for me and its costing £15 per pair. Only took a couple of weeks - its £25 if you take in shoes that you got elsewhere though....

It looks like it is just the Bluewater John Lewis that does the dyeing service, bit far away for me!

Rainbow club site not very helpful, I got the shoes on-line, could I just take them into a shop that stocks them (I notice my dress shop is one of those)....

I'm afraid I don't but if you email the 'fairy godmum' on their website, I'm sure they'll give you some idea of the price and turnaround. It wouldn't surprise me if John Lewis sent their shoes there as well so it'll be the same price (but still good quality).

Is there any possibility of keeping the shoes ivory and blinging them up with swarovski crystals in gold e.g.

No all John lewis stores do it, you may have to go in and ask, their website is rubbish. You could ring a few bridal shops that stock the shoes and ask, but they may charge you more as you didn't get the shoes from there, I'd give your store a call though.

The bridal shop I have bought mine from are charging me £11, after the wedding to make them black. Rainbow shoes website should there stockists, but as others have said may charge more as you did not purchase them from there

I bought my rainbow club shoes from the accessory boutique and sent them back there to get dyed. As it was mid-summer and peak wedding season I paid for the express service which was 10 days from receipt and cost about £40. They were sent back to Rainbow club to be dyed.
