Ravenswood manor?

BrideHannahB, 11 February, 2009 at 08:47 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi All!

I've been waiting to get the pricing from Ravenswood manor (Sussex) for venue/food/wine etc but its not come through yet and had to re-request it. Does anyone have any idea of the costs for it? I think its my first choice but thats very dependant on prices!

Any help would be much appreciated! I am not patient enough to keep waiting for the post!!

Thanks!

    Hi Hannah,

I have been there, we nearly chose this venue for our wedding, I have the pricing at home and can email it to you if you like

I must say though................... (dont read on if you have your heart set on the place!!!!) -

    • they have 2 weddings a day and you share the garden, which is what put us off - we didnt want to bump into another B&G on our big day and also the ducks pooooed everywhere, and I mean all over the place ..... and we had to walk in their poo on our tour of the garden.................. nice!!
    • The Wedding coordinator double booked our appointment and had a go at me in reception for turning up late, she asked us to leave and re-book but luckily for me I had the confirmnation letter ifrom her n my purse and showed it to her, she was v embarrassed.....aside from that I think that the Venue is worth the money....
    • Also if you choose ithis venue please make sure you get your wedding in the conservatory, its huge and airy and gorgeous, other wise if its in the Great hall your walk up the aisle will be about 8 ft long and I am not exaggerating, its very cosy!
    • The lake is really pretty and will make for good photos and the main Tower which was built/designed by of Henry 8ths wives (cant remember which) is just breathtaking, Its a really stunning place

I am so pleased that I know someone else who has been there now!!!!

    I'll shut up now x

Thank you so much for that - very useful to have feedback. I wonder if there is anyway of taking it on an exclusive basis! I'm not keen on the thought of someone elses wedding taking place that day with mine. I'll have to have a look for some more places I think. I am getting quite stuck though as can't find anything I really like the look of. It sounds ridiculous but my shortlist has gone right down!! Finding a venue shouldn't be this hard should it?!

If you can send me the info that would be great....

    Thanks so much!

We filmed a wedding there last August and luckily there was only one wedding on at the time. The ceremony was in the conservatory as was the wedding breakfast. It's a charming venue.

As for the poo from geese, well, that's true, you have to be carefull. But the geese are wild geese and settle there every summer, it's not like they chose to have the geese. Other than that, the gardens are very well maintained and there are lots of beautiful locations for photographs.

can't comment on the quality of the food as they hadn't prepared the vendor's meal ☹️

If you want, you can see the clip of that wedding here

Have you had a chance to look at Newick park or Buxted park? They are not too far from Ravenswood and both absolutely gorgeous. We very nearly went to Buxted?

Saracroft thank you so much for that! I guess now my issue is having the venue shared with another bride as I'm fine with that if there is no overlap though I'm doubtful from others comments that would be the case.

I've just enquired about Buxed Park and I've discounted Neswick as its too pricy. I have however looked at Salomans which looks like a good potential, plus got the brochures for Sopwell house and Boreham house. Need to visit and just make a decision!

I'm getting married in The Ravenswood. (In the Old Baronial Hall BTW. I would point out that it's all down to personal taste and I didn't want to get married in the modern Princess Beatrice suite - much prefer the original side of the building. Also it comes down to number of guests - I want a medium sized wedding.) The two wedding parties are unlikely to mix because the garden path is the dividing line and guests are requested to stick to their own areas. It was my first choice of venue and I'm really glad I picked it.

My only criticism is that the wedding co-ordinator is bossy, verging on rude. She told me off for not taking notes in a meeting. I'd assumed she was going to give me a typed wedding itinerary (or that not how these things work? I don't make a habit of getting married!), but apparently not.
