Reception venue in Glasgow and surrounding area

Laura, 7 July, 2022 at 17:21 Posted on Planning 0 3
Hey,
My fiancé and I are from Glasgow, born and raised, but we immigrated to Canada in 2020 and just recently got engaged. We plan on eloping here in Canada in summer 2023, but want to have a reception/party style celebration back in Scotland with close family and friends, likely in December 2023. I am looking for something nice but not too formal or expensive. More of a party vibe with buffet options, dancing etc. rather than a formal sit down meal. Close family and friends so up to maybe 60 people. Does anyone have any suggestions of venues to look at? My family are based primarily in Glasgow southside/south lanarkshire and his family are east dumbartonshire. Thanks!

I'm getting married at Ross Priory, which is about 30-40 minutes from Glasgow and right by Loch Lomond. I know they offer hot and cold buffet options for the evening food, though it's not really mentioned on their packages online. However, the coordinator, Lesley, has been quite accommodating with our changes and it's a pretty affordable venue in a stunning location.

For a fun, relaxed reception venue in Glasgow and the surrounding area, you might want to look into local hotels with private function rooms, golf clubs, or even community halls that allow you to bring in your own catering for a buffet-style setup—many of these spots offer dance floors and bar options that create more of a party vibe rather than a formal sit-down meal. Places like Oran Mór, Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, or smaller boutique hotels around the southside and East Dunbartonshire area can work really well for around 60 guests without being overly expensive. It’s a good idea to ask if they allow flexible catering or buffet menus so you can keep things casual yet enjoyable, similar to how you’d pick and choose favorites off something like the A and W Canada White River menu when you want variety and value.

For your informal, party-style celebration for around 60 guests in December, focusing on a buffet and dancing across the Glasgow/Lanarkshire/Dunbartonshire areas, consider venues known for atmosphere and flexible event packages NJ E-ZPass rather than formal dining. Excellent options include the elegant and accessible **Pollokshields Burgh Hall** (Southside), the unique and atmospheric **Cottiers Theatre** (accessible from East Dunbartonshire), or a dedicated events space like **The Loft at the Old Mill** (South Lanarkshire), all of which are well-suited for a relaxed evening reception. Be sure to contact them specifically requesting pricing for a buffet and dance package, stating clearly that a formal sit-down meal is not required.
