Reception without Wedding Breakfast

SunnyGreenFlowers76, 31 December, 2013 at 21:41 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi Everyone

I wondered if anyone could offer any advise please. ?

I am hoping to get married at xmas 2014 but I am not sure what I am doing. ? ?

Im not into the typical traditional wedding and my partner and I really dont fancy a Wedding Breakfast .
It just isnt us. We'd rather have the ceremony and then go to the reception but have a nice posh buffet and a large party with lots of drinks and entertainment etc.

Is this something that can be achieved or do most places only really let you have the breakfast first?

Is there anywhere in the Derby/Derbyshire area that would let us do this?
Even arranging our own food is fine too.

We don't want to have the reception in a social club etc. We would still like the grand surrounding if you know what I mean.

Many thanks

Wedding Virgin

That's exactly what we are doing ... it's been a pain in the bum to sort out and some venues were not keen on us going "off package" but we have found a stunning venue that is able to offer us what we want ... a 5pm ceremony, drinks reception then party with food .... we have had to comprise on the day of the week because most places would not offer a Friday or Saturday. most venues offered an out of season month or a Sunday or mid week day. we have gone for a Sunday in July.

i found the best way was to send an email asking if the venue could accommodate a bespoke wedding that is not a usual package. I set out exactly what I wanted and asked for a rough quote. we got a fair amount of replies ... a lot clearly not reading my email and sending package info, but had a good selection to visit and choose.

money is not the reason we went with this ... my oh hates formal sitdown meals ... it has worked out cheaper though ... well it's not cheaper then a lower to mid range venue where the meal is £ 40/50 a head as a package but it's a high end venue where we are paying hire costs and then specific food and drink s costs ... it's about 6.5k for 120 guests. ..

    anyway good luck xx

There is no reason why not. I have found that most venues i saw had the package as an option or you could price up what you wanted instead. If I wasnt having a wedding breakfast i would probably have a late ceremony like the previous poster and then you only have to supply one buffet but then again you are looking at xmas and it will have gone dark quite early. You can have whatever you want and just search for a venue that will do this for you. There are plenty. A few months ago one of my couples held their reception in a Bar in Birmingham for this very reason. It looked amazing!

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

Im glad Im not the only one that isnt a fan of wedding breakfasts.

I think I am defo going to ask around. I have heard alot about marquees but then the people that run them make you have their food etc.

I can't wait till this is all booked and sorted.

How women get excited I dont know

'Wedding Breakfast' is the term used to describe your first meal as a married couple that meal could take any form including a buffet.

Wedding Breakfast does not mean a sit down meal.
