Red veins on the face, can they be toned down?

DaisyDaisy, 21 April, 2009 at 20:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

I have a patch of red broken veins on the top of my nose (after several breaks the bone kind of sticks up, and I have to knock it back in, which has resulted, over time in a patch of broken veins, with a sort of red spot in the middle).

I know it's not actually disfiguring, but beginning to annoy me, especially when H recently said he'd thought it was a spot, that'd been there for a few years. Gah.

Quarterising (sp?) will cost over £100 - is there any T&T cream or similar that will bring the redness out a bit? Is that possible?

? in advance. x

Yes..well..I'm aware that it's not a big helper and so am trying to not drink during the week.

I seem to remember Ponds doing a redness reduction cream back in the 80's when people still used cold cream?

Clinique do a really nice cleanser and moisturiser specifically designed to help tone down redness in the face. I've been using it for the past couple of months and have noticed a definite improvement. Also my skin is nice and soft and moisturised and it's keeping the spots at bay too!

    Might be worth a look?

I have terrible broken veins in my cheeks. Combination of too much sun, tendency to rushes of blood to the head and too much wine. I find drinking lots of water and a good skin care regimen generally minimises them, but once they're there, they're there. I considered cosmetic zapping at one point, but it's expensive and there is the risk of looking like you've been attacked by homicidal Lego (google if you don't believe me), plus they do tend to return.

Same as Sophie- I actually got as far as going to see a doctor about the thread veins around my nose but couldn't face the bruising. It's extremely visible and extremely strange looking- as Sophie said, as if you've been attacked with Lego, or maybe punched repeatedly with a cotton bud. I really think you'd have to go on holiday for a month ?

? thanks ladies! I had some veins round my nose 'done' before my wedding, didn't bloody cost £100 though..(5 years ago).

I went to Boots today and asked. The lady gave me a wodge of Eucerin samples of day and night cream, so I'll give those a go.

You're right Sophie, on weeks like this when I'm not drinking alcohol and drinking mjore water the red patch is certainly less lurid.

    Thanks all

Thanks for the link Jules, I've put it in my favourites for when I've finished the samples and need to get something properly. Thanks also for the rec.

Have you seen your GP. I have rosacea, which I believe is basically broken capilliaries which may or may not be the same thing.

After a long course of Antibiotics, I am now getting some laser treatment that should reduce the redness. Its on the NHS, so it might be worth speaking to your GP about getting a referral to a dermatologist?

Not quite the same but I sometimes get broken capillaries around my eyes (don't ask) and high strength vitamin K cream seems to help speed up mending quite a bit.

Hiya - thanks Minerva, someone said something about vitamin E oil too.

Nope, definitely not rosacea, I *think* it might be called a spider nebula, but I might have just plucked that right out of the air. I'll google it, in fact, and do a spot of auto didactical work for a change instead of asking HItched.

Yes..it appears I have indeed plucked that one out of the air, or indeed my previous existence as an anorak subconscious. It's to do with space.

It does look a bit like this though actually https://discord.com/invite/Dbv9nMP
