princessbeccy, 4 August, 2008 at 14:16 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hello ladies, I've seen some conflicting prices, does anyone have an idea how much it costs to get married at a civil venue (not registry office).... am trying to do my budget!

Registrar fees vary from region to region I think, it's costing us £285 for our registrar on a Saturday.

Have you tried ringing the register office of the region you are looking to get married in?

In kent, it's costing us about 450 quid for the ceremony (in a hotel, not registry office) - afraid i can't elaborate more on what that includes as paperwork is at home, but i think that's at the more expensive end of the scale.

I'm confused, did you mean 'how much does it cost to have a registrar come out to a venue to officiate?' or 'how much do venues charge for holding a civil ceremony there?'

Venue fees can vary dramatically and it's best to contact the venue for costs.

It's costing us £285 for the registrar to come out to our venue, we're in Lancashire.

The room hire for the venue is included in our costs for the venue.

£395 for Registrar on a Sunday, £3K venue hire in Warwirckshire.

If you have a look on your local councils website the fees should be on there.

It's different in every area. Everywhere it costs £30 each to give notice (you and your H2B both have to do this) but then the actual costs for the registrar to attend the ceremony at your venue vary wildly. Ours is quite cheap at £250 for a Saturday wedding (that's West Berkshire). We've also had to pay our venue around £300 to have the ceremony there, on top of the hire fee we are paying.

The best way for you to get an exact cost will be to call your registrar for the district you want to get married in. And remember, fees vary based on the day of the week (usually cheaper in the week, Sunday most expensive) so check you ask for the right day as well.

Thanks girlies... I didn't realise it varied from area to area, I guess that's where the confusion came from... I've looked on the Surrey website and it's £320 for a Saturday, plus the notice of marriage.
