Registry Office - just not sure?

Callmechar, 31 May, 2010 at 17:27 Posted on Planning 0 13

We are considering for our remarriage to get married in a Registry Office. To be honest I am not at all keen. However, are any of you having Registry Office weddings? What are your experiences?

    Hi,

We're having one. We didn't want a church wedding and couldn't really afford a hotel wedding so that was our only choice really. But ours is a lovely 17th century cottage in the middle of a town so not your typical council building.

We're having a registry office ceremony as neither me nor OH are religious and felt it would be a bit hypocritical if we had a church ceremony. we're actually getting marrie din the town hall but in the council chamber with a HUGE stained glass dome. its gorgeous, and the registrar is lovely too.

There are some really beautiful register offices around. It is worth having a look at what is available in your area and in the neighbouring boroughs. I know a few London that I would quite happily get married in. Some are not so picturesque but I wouldn't dismiss them all until you've had a look.

We are getting married in a registry office and it looks absolutely lovely. I was worried that there would be streams of brides filing in and out of the building and that it would be tacky but I was so wrong. Neither of us are religious and we didn't want to get married in a church for this reason.

I think it depends, the registry office in Liverpool looks like an office building so i didnt want to think about there, but my OH's daughters birth was registered at Runcorn Town hall and he said i would love it, its my little picture to the left and its perfect, sweeping drive way excellent gardens and a beautiful back drop,

i love it anyway, and the ceremony room is decorated obviously just with my wedding theme and colours in mind lol, they are so kind,

    lara x

The venues do vary enourmously with some being extremely pleasant and some just functional and basic. It really does depend on your local venue. Many of the nicer ones are truly excellent.

We're getting married in a registry office too as we didn't want to get married in a church as neither of us are religious and ahotel wedding was too expensive. But our registry office is gorgeous on the inside and we're the only wedding going on at that time....piccies below (its Morden Park House - unsuprisingly in Morden lol)

I looked there until we realised 90% of our guests actually live up in hull where we do (my parents live in a village 15 miles away from taunton) Its stunning tho and i'm quite jealous lol

Callmechar - we did consider the above register office but our local one is too small (and behind a casino in a 70's office block - not quite so wow) it really depends on what you want for YOUR day x

I havent read all the replies but not all Registry offices are dingy or dreadful... Some are beautiful town halls or the registry office might have lovely gardens, have a look around your area...
