Registry office wedding- photography

Michaela, 2 June, 2021 at 21:35 Posted on Planning 0 8
Hi all! My partner and I are getting married next month in Old Marylebone Town hall. We’re going to invite just 5-6 guests; the wedding will be at 2.30pm. We won’t have an official reception, but we do want to book a table at a nice restaurant and have a nice meal with the guests. However, we’d also like to get professional photographer who would take pictures during the ceremony and then pictures of us (just my partner and I) in a nice location close by, such as Regent’s park. I guess it could take 1-2hrs - but what the guests are going to do in the meanwhile? I feel bad just leaving them to wait for us to finish.. and we cannot really do an entertainment for them as it usual during ‘non-registry’ weddings. The only idea I have is asking them to wait in the restaurant where we’re going to eat, or in a pub close by.. Any advice greatly appreciated, this is really stressing me out!

I’d book a table for them at a beer garden and have that be your “drinks reception” before going for dinner with them.

That being said, you need to decide if leaving your wedding guests for 2hrs is a little overkill. I don’t think most people take that much time even if they are doing photos with their wedding party in addition to couples photos.
    Good luck and congratulations.

Thank you for the reply! Beer garden is a good idea, I’ll look into it. We’ll have just 5 guests so it might be a bit awkward for them having to stay there too long. I hope it would be just 1 hour, but it’s difficult to tell - it usually takes a while to get from one location to another in London and even though Regent park is close to the registry office, it might still take 20min to get into the location where the pictures will be taken..

This is a good suggestion with the beer garden. Also 1/2 hour on location should be enough but it depends on how far it is to walk to different shooting or the nicest spots when you are there. Local knowledge by the photographer here would be the way to go.

Add on to the 1/2 hour the time in the park to get from the register office and then to to pub where you would catch up with your guests.

EDIT - looks like you posted as I was composing

    Hey!

I went to a small london wedding last year and we went to a pub straight after the ceremony. The pub was down the road from the restaurant, by the time we’d faffed around leaving the registry office and london traffic we were actually only at the pub half an hour before they arrived. I didn’t even realise they were off having photos until afterwards and it was really lovely to have a few changes of scenery - hope that helps!

Would it be possible for the guests to come with you for the photos? Not to be in the pictures but they may want to take pictures themselves? I think leaving guests for 2 hours is a bit long but can appreciate that travelling between locations in London can take time.

There are other green space options in that area if you wanted to reduce the time. Another option is to do the park shots on the day before or after, just like a photo shoot. Quite common in the USA. Do be aware though that Regents Park is a Royal park and technically you need a licence to do a paid shoot. That said, this is rarely imposed and I have never been challenged.
    Best of luck.

I'd pick a restaurant near your photography location and arrange for the guests to have drinks while they wait for you to arrive - if you leave the ceremony promptly you'll probably arrive at the restaurant very soon after them anyway. We had our couple photographs at a separate location to our ceremony, and it only took about 20 minutes to get all the photos plus travel time. There's a limit to how many pics you need of just two people!
