re-heating seafood paella - yes or no?

WifeyLind, 6 of November of 2008 at 09:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Well as the title says. Is it ok to re-heat the left overs from yesterday or should we not risk it?

Should be fine as long as it was fresh yesterday and everything is piping hot throughout

Thanks Kegsey. This is what I've been wondering as I'm sure I heard somewhere that you shouldn't re-heat rice for some reason.

I would eat it, like Hazel, I'd just make sure it was piping hot.

It's fine as long as it's within 24 hours and you reheat it until it's piping hot.

I think its that there is a bacteria in rice which, if the rice is left warm for a while produces a toxin. Unlike other toxins, it isn't killed/destroyed/made safe by reheating. You can reheat rice but it has to have been cooled quickly after cooking to be safe.

I'd be inclined to believe the scientist (hazel) thaht so long as it was only cooked yesterday (and so long as you stored it in the fridge overnight) then the spore of bacteria that can live in uncooked rice (and can survive the cooking process) won't have had the chance to mulitply. If however it's been sitting about at room temperature overnight, I'd bin it. I think the seafood is a bit of a red herring tbh (pardon the pun).

I would, and have, reheated both seafood and rice the day after and it has been fine.
