Releasing butterflies instead of doves?

Gbutterfly, 27 October, 2010 at 10:57 Posted on Planning 0 24

Hi, I've heard that you can release butterflies instead of doves, does anyone know anything about this or how to go about it?

Omg that would totally freak me out!! i have a phobia of them lol

plus, i think doves would be more willing to leave....butterflies dont really have much sense of direction!

Sorry but I think both are cruel. Butterflies are not meant to be caged up, I can't imagine the trauma they must go through.

I know it can physically be done, and I know it's been done before as a wind up!

my daughter's teacher had the idea of having this as a class pet!!

they bought the kit and the kids looked after them as caterpillars (?) then studied them until they 'hatched/grew' (??) turned into butterflies-then they had a mass butterfly release on the field in front of the whole school!!

(So while she is really struggling with maths, at least she does know how to feed a caterpillar a lettuce leaf)

Yeah thinking about it, it does seem cruel. Couldn't believe that they would deliver them the day before the wedding! wouldn't like the idea of have a load of butterflies in the house! would have a fear of waking up and be attacked by butterflies ?

I have been told a lot of butterflies day during the process, which is rahter sad really, isnt it?

Plus, certain times of year they wouldn't survive the outside temperatures.

Cruel. It makes me feel sad that people would keep butterflies all smooshed up like that just for the sake of a 2-minute spectacle on their wedding day.
