removing security tags from clothes...

Hubble, 14 June, 2008 at 12:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

H bought some clothes for Fin in london this week but when we upacked the bag, a magnetic security tag has been left in a pair of trousers.... There isn't a branch of that shop here in the channel islands. Any idea on how to get it removed? If i took it (+ a receipt) to any shop that uses those magnetic pin and clench tags, do you think they'd take it off? It isn't one that releases a dye... Does anyone know any DIY tricks for dealing with it. Promise it's not stolen!!

Is it a shop owned by a group (ie burton, topshop, evans - all owned by same people) and if so are there any of their other stores where you live?

Failing that do you know anyone who works in a shop where they have those remover things? Obv then they will know you are honest!

This happened with a skirt I bought once - Mr W managed to smash it off on the garden wall.

I have known other shops remove the tags before. WHSmith removed my Next one once, and didn't ask for the receipt. Amazingly, t was setting off the WHSmith alarm but didn't set off the one in Next.

If you can't find a shop to remove it for you, get in touch with the store you purchased from and tell them whats happened. I would expect they would ask you to post it back to them with proof of purchase and they could send you it back once the tag has been removed.

    Don't ask....

The big round ones should be layed flat and the raised area walloped with a hammer.

The long plastic rectanges with a tack through should be approached with two pairs of pliers or mole grips, one on each end... bend in the middle.

Try using a magnet if you have one. They are magnetic based I think.

Note I know this from retail training not shoplifting but thats how shoplifters get them off in changing rooms.
