    Neither - the acid will strip the plating if it is silver plated. If it is silver plated or sterling silver then warm soapy water and a soft tooth brush is the answer and then dry it thoroughly (put your hairdryer on a warm setting and hold it about 12 inches away).

    Thank you Ms T, I have a silver polishing cloth that seems to be taking something off - do you know if that is ok?

    You can also use a silver cloth or silver dip but not silver polish as it gets behind the stones and makes them dull.
