Reputable double glazing companies. Recs?

CountDuckula, 10 February, 2009 at 13:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I really need to get my crappy, rotten wooden windows replaced in my flat but how do I know if a double glazing company is any good? Are any of the nationwide ones like Anglian or Everest any good? Any to avoid like the plague? If anyone has any recommendations for Surrey/SW London then I'll be very grateful ?

I dont live in your area but I would strongly recommend a local company. Is there anyone on your street thats had new windows recently? Perhaps you could ask them? i would also get 2 or 3 different quotes too.

Thanks Mizz Pink, I'm currently Googling to see what comes up so I'll check out the local ones.

I'd avoid the National's too I'm afraid. I know a good company in the Swindon area but that's no help to you! Have you noticed any local glazing companies vans that tend to go around your area? Other wise Yell/ neighbours recommendations are the best routes.

Thanks Sparks. I'm on the Checkatrade site at the moment which is giving me some local ones. They have customer reviews as well which is useful. The flat is out on rent and I don't live in the area so don't know any neighbours or see any vans!

I had Cheam Windows replace my rubbish uPVC windows in my house in Morden about ten years ago and they also did my grandmother's flat's windows in North Cheam a few years later - they were good then, don't know if they're any good now. I think they cover SW London/Surrey.

Local recommendations are usually best - do you know anyone in the area who has had replacements done and can recommend someone?

We're in Surrey and used Warmlite windows, on the recommendation of a friend.

They're based in Tolworth I think, but seem to cover quite a large area. Came in with a decent quote (about £7k less than Everest ?) and did the work promptly and well.

Would def recommend them (the guy we deal with is called Jeff).

Thanks for both those recs, I'll check them out.

Baublegirl, the flat is in Surbiton so Tolworth would be very handy ?

If you want a straight answer, most people go through the same confusion.

Big names like Anglian and Everest are well known, but reviews are mixed. They offer solid products, but can be expensive and sometimes come with pushy sales or slow aftercare.

From real user experiences on Reddit, a common theme is:

“Go local… much better quote and service”

    So the safest approach is:

    Get 3 to 5 quotes

Always include 1–2 local independent installers

Check FENSA registration and real reviews

Don’t agree on the spot, take your time

For Surrey/SW London, local firms often give better pricing and more personal service compared to nationals.

Also, if your main issue is comfort (heat, glare, privacy), sometimes upgrading with solutions like window film or smart glass installation miami fl can be a cheaper alternative to full replacement.
