Royal Blue Bridesmaids Dresses, apparently an unreasonable shopping request!

LeaLeigh, 7 April, 2012 at 12:30 Posted on Planning 0 17

Well I began Operation Bridesmaid yesterday. I actually couldn't move last night, my calves were destroyed.

100 miles in the car, 60 shops in 4 different shopping complexes and 7 hours later we found 1 Royal Blue dress in coast.

Nice but obviously want a little more choice and hopefully a sale before I pay £180 for a dress they will wear once! I have scoured the internet for 3 hours since and have the same limited choice ☹️

Anyone got any idea of good high street choices? I am going to order a few online before they next come to visit in 4 weeks.

Ideally I need a Royal Blue maxi dress, with some kind of detailing at front to slim the figure. Must have one strap at least.

Thanks in advance.

Your brief is exactly like mine was, royal blue, full length, slimming for my tummy concious BM's and not strapless. I also found the high st too lacking and dessy/bridal shops too expensive.

I am ordering from light in the box, flash below! Takes a little imagination to picture the style you want in the right colour but I'm confident about it. I ordered a fabric swatch from them and the blue is a great colour!

    Thanks ladies.

I looked in House of Fraser! Did not see anything like those, how annoying.

I have a knee concious bridesmaid which is why they need to be long ?

Can you return things on ebay? Whats the tax like with light in the box?

    Regarding returning things:

I think on ebay, if they are a registered business, then you can return things (but might depend on their terms), BUT, if they are just an individual, you can only return it if there is a fault or the item isnt as described. Even so, unless they offer to pay return postage, you will have to pay that too.

No idea about light in the box.

I personally would buy high street if you can, because at least the dress can be tried on & seen beforehand. Even if its ordered in, at most high street shops you can easily return & exchange if they are the wrong size.

Well strictly speaking there is none from light in the box themselves. The dresses I'm getting are £65 each, when you add shipping for 3 dresses it's about £80. However there is a risk that when the delivery comes through customs you'll get charged tax there. Light in the box mark up their parcels as gifts to try and avoid this, which worked when I got my sample but you do have to factor in the risk of this. From calculating online I worked out that if I do get charged at customs then the dresses work out about £105 each instead. Which is still better than the other options I'd found but of course I'd rather it was the £80!!

Emze txmaxx is great and I looked there myself but just be careful to look at sizes before deciding for sure you want the dress! If you look at the dress you mention they only have it in size 4 or 6...!!

The pale dress posted from light in the box looks very similar in style to ones we wore for my sisters wedding.

They were really easy to wear and flattering to all from the size 12 but 5 month pregnant, to size 22 bridesmaid.

    Lovely dresses.

I know exactly what you mean! I've been searching for Navy ish bridesmaids dress' and in the end purchased those one from Debenhams listed above. To be honest, they looked stunning on and had the requirements of my sister - full straps, full length, secure around the bust area! Therefore, we just stopped the search and I bought both the dresses there and then!

Ahh didn't notice that. might be worth making a note of the item number and giving local stores a call to see if they have differnet sizes in stock if you find a dress you really like (and you don't mind a bit of traveling)

I had a 'mare trying to find royal blue dresses aswell, But I ended up with these,http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170619133505?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 One of my BMs is weight concious so wanted straps, but she is short and these dresses are long, so what is cut off the bottom can be used as the straps. and I got them at a bargain so can afford to make a couple of alterations.

    Thanks Ladies

You have all been most helpful. I have 3 weeks before the bridesmaids are in the same county again so might get ordering in a a week or so and let them take over my first hen do with dress fittings lol.

Had another browse in another shopping centre today and still found not one of these dresses mentioned on here.

September 15th there will be a lovely range to pick from I am sure!
