RSVP by text/email?!

milna, 18 March, 2009 at 14:13 Posted on Planning 0 6

I sent my inviations out last week. It clearly said at the bottom 'RSVP by xxth April to Milna's House, Milna's Street, Milnaland'.

So far I've had one written RSVP (passed to me at work by a colleague), one RSVP by email, and two RSVP's by text! I guess this is going to be the norm ... should have just invited everyone by text ! ?

I always send a card to RSVP if I receive a wedding invitation - I don't really mind the texts and emails, but it makes it a bit harder to keep track of - I have to remember to update my list (on the computer at home) every day before they get lost/I forget - written ones I could just pile up by the PC and tick off the list when its convenient.

Is that for Day people or Evening ?

I have had a few like that for Evening, even people just telling me there coming. but Day time seems a bit bad as you have to keep a track of them better.

Infact I have given up with my evening list now, and thought whoever turns up turns up.

    LOL at "Milnaland" ?

I'm so glad we sent rsvp cards actually as we have got loads back already and they only went last week... that said though I would imagine that this is the first rush and then those I have to chase will be a nightmare...

Everyone is invited for the whole day. Its at my Dad's house (230 miles from where we ... and lots of our friends ... live) - so didn't really feel we could just invite people to come for a drink in the evening! Everyone is invited to ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening festivities - all in one location.

It could be worse - you could be getting no replies at all and having to chase them all up! Personally I would also usually buy a card to RSVP to someone, unless they were really really close. But don't think it would bother me too much if I received a lot of RSVPs by text or email.

Until I got married myself, it didn't even occur to me that things like this mattered. As it happens, I always replied to wedding invitations by post, and for my own wedding, we sent out RSVP cards. They didn't cost much and matched the invites. To save any confusion as to whether children were invited as well, I wrote the persons name on the RSVP card and all they had to do was tick to say if they were veggie or not.

This may seem dull, but in fact my friends surprised me in that there were so many additional (funny) comments, or nice notes on the cards as well.

If it bothers you so much, ask the people who have texted you to send a paper version, so that way you can keep an eye on who has or hasn't replied. Someone at work did this, and no one batted an eye lid

I wouldn't say it bothers me 'so much' - as you say, its not something that would ever have occurred to me as being a problem before I was getting married myself.

I don't resent people doing it and am not going to refuse to acknowledge RSVPs unless they come in satisfactory form ... It is just challenging my organisational skills, which are ropey at the best of times ?

Maybe I should have just done inviations via facebook so that people can just click 'will be attending' or 'wont be attending' ?
