RSVP Deadline

Brooksy, 3 October, 2014 at 14:41 Posted on Planning 0 15

I am trying to get all of my stationary sorted at the moment and I am just wondering what timescale to give for RSVP's?

I am getting married on 20th June 2015 and I was thinking of saying RSVP by 23rd May to give me time to chase any stragglers and then finalise the seating plan. But now I am thinking that 4 weeks is too long...

Can't make my mind up on anything at the moment!

How much time did/are you all giving yourselves?

We got married 5 September. Sent out invites in middle of January, with RSVP date of 1 June. Spent most of July chasing people then gave up and assumed they weren't coming. Still waiting for some replies lol!

We sent our invitations in September for our March wedding. RSVP date was January.

I think a month is fine, we're going for 5 weeks before (I'm a bit militant!).

I'm factoring in time to chase any late repliers, and there are always late repliers. There will be lots of little things to do in the couple weeks before the big day, and you'll want some time to do something nice...like chill out a bit! You don't want to spend that time chasing people as well.

We're getting married on 6th June, but our venue want numbers in April, so I have asked for RSVPs by the beginning of March, to allow myself time to chase people up if needed.

I shall be sending the invites out between Christmas and New year to give people something nice to open amongst the post-Christmas credit card statements!!!

We got married 19th sept, sent invites end of feb with an RSVP of 22nd of august. the venue wanted menu choices 2 weeks before and this left me with 2 weeks to chase the non replyers - of which there were a few, mainly H's family!!

    xx

I put a deadline of 6 weeks before but my chair cover lady is bugging me for final numbers because she needs payment 6 weeks before and needs to invoice me, so I'm having to chase people up before the deadline. Check with any suppliers who need final numbers in advance and set your date a few weeks before that.

Same date as us!! Smiley laugh.

I am sending invites out jan/feb time with rsvp sometime in april. that's enough time for everyone to rsvp! and less stress for us chasing people a couple weeks before the wedding. would like to know early as possible so can tell chair cover company, make favours and if people do say no can maybe ask some evening guests that I would love to come but just cannot afford to have Smiley sad

Sent our invites out in May with an RSVP deadline of 1st August, suspected some would decline so wanted to be able to invite more people without them thinking they were second choice!!

Got final menu choices through mid September! I would say that we got a few responses very quickly but the majority were received just before the deadline so don't get despondent if you don't hear back straight away!!

Work backwards by at least 2 weeks from the date you need to give final numbers to your venue/caterers.

...or be cheeky like me and put the RSVP info on a website rather than the printed invitations so every time I got a negative we could invite someone else and move the RSVP date if necessary! Wel, we were paying the same if we had 80 or 120 so it seemed a shame to waste spaces!

Ooops, I had not even considered the suppliers!

Will have to check with them before I print

I'm not overly worried about getting no's as it is mostly family and they are all so excited already (most of them have already booked their hotel rooms!). I will stick with my 4 weeks, unless suppliers say otherwise

Getting slightly obsessed as I have been stalking the american forums and seen someone being told that they are rude for sending thier invites out 10 weeks before the wedding ? (apparently much to far away from the wedding and how dare she expect guests to commit so far in advance...)

    Thanks everyone

4 weeks is possibly too short - move the slider further away from the wedding day and closer towards your planning needs. So for a 20 June wedding, people should be able to let you know by the end of March - after all, they'll want to plan their holidays, breaks and other activities too.

I've just sent out invites for our wedding in December this year (we only got engaged 6 weeks ago) and have give them until 22nd October to respond. We have spoken with almost everyone anyway so know who definitely can't come and those who may not. I then have a month to chase them until the venue needs numbers.

Hi, I'm also a 20th June 15 bride. I have used 1st April as the RSVP date.

Our venue needs final numbers 6 weeks before, and this allows me 5 weeks on top to chase people.

    Hope this helps.
