RSVP envelopes - Should I include postage

sarahh123, 14 May, 2011 at 23:10 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi All,

Im about to send out my invites, and We have included an RSVP card, with an addressed envelope, Is it normal to include a stamp on the envelope, or should we leave this to guests to sort out?

Just wondering if putting stamps on will make people reply on time, as I keep hearing so many people are having to chase people up after the RSVP date

Thanks,

Sarah

I think people have problems chasing people up regardless of if the RSVP has a stamp on it, if it's clearly addresses or even if it's attached to a trained homing pigeon!!

Save yourself the money and buy a bottle of wine for when the RSVP chasing stress hits you x

We didn't bothered puttin stamps on our rsvp's. They been out a wk Now + we've had about 10 back. I don't think a stamp wud help enough to justify cost - people still have to off their arse & physically post it. Loads of people have Told us they love the invite & will be coming. I feel like sayin I look forward to your rsvp - if I wanted verbal confirmation i'd have enclosed my mobile number not a proper ravp card complete with addressed envelope! Grrrr...

I chose not to include stamps and I was right not to as some people handed our card back to us and others put our card into a proper acceptance card, so the stamps would have been wasted.

I put stamps on all my RSVP cards and it didn't actually help so save your pennies and don't bother because if I ever get another chance at this wedding malarky (hopefully it wont come to that!) I wont be bothering!

I wouldn't bother as some people will deliver them by hand anyway, save your money!

We included stamped, addressed envelopes with our reply card. Out of 50 invitations (covering 84 people), we are only waiting on 4 back. And our deadline isn't until the 20th May. And two of those are Mexico/Australia where we couldn't include stamps anyway. Not sure if it was the stamps or my general scariness but even people I expected not to bother found they could at least drag themselves to the post box.

Putting a stamp on doesn't guarantee a reply - we still had to chase quite a few after our closing date.

I think putting one does lessen the "inconvenience" for some of having to get a reply back to you, but I think it depends on circumstances. If it's a lot of people you work/socialise with on a regular basis you're more likely to get hand delivered replies whereas more distant family will probably post.

Also, it depends if you're doing the invites from/to you, or the traditional way of rsvp to your parents.

AJ - I work with friend and sit five feet from her, all day every day. I posted her invitation to her house and she posted the reply back to me. Smiley smile

We put stamps on ours and had all our replies back in time (lots of them very soon after sending the invites!). I think in our case it did make a difference in getting the responses back more quickly. That said, some did go to waste as several people did hand their cards back rather than posting them - but it was worth it overall for us.We also used our RSVPs as place cards on the day (as they had the guests' menu choices on them) meaning that it was probably cheaper to spend the extra on a stamp and make sure we got the card back rather than having to buy place cards for everyone!
