Rude gym receptionist

barongreenback, 29 July, 2008 at 14:20 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

As I've not been able to run for the past couple of weeks I am back making use of my gym. The receptionist there (who previously seemed pleasant, if somewhat lacking in intelligence) has been a sour faced little mare every single time I've been in. I smile, I say hello, I don't thrust my membership card at her...in fact I'm starting to think it's personal ?. I'm lucky to get a grunt in reply. Either way, it's unprofessional for the public face of the gym. Enough is enough - would you say something directly to her, or perhaps sent a letter to the manager? This is of course assuming that she's equally rude the next time I go in although I'm not expecting her to change.

Well if you're brave enough then i'd probably say something to her like 'have i upset you in some way'? or words to that effect and see what she says. If she's still surly then i'd maybe mention it to the management - depends if you want to get her into trouble or not.

In our gym (Virgin) the reception staff couldn't be nicer, they always give a smile and say hello and goodbye when you go in and out.

Try striking up a mundane conversation, maybe the weather or something. Then if she grunts at you, fair play, complain away, if it'll make you happy.

I think it probably is personal though.

OK, I don't, but I wouldn't be bothered by her rudeness. My superiority complex would let it wash over me. ?

No name badges (probably to protect them). It's tomorrow night.

I'd ask her her name, then write to the manager. What's she going to do - put drawing pins on the exercise bike? ?

    She worked in the gym
    And she always looked grim
(Or perhaps she just thinks Baron's a plum?)

I was watching Loose Women one day and Coleen Nolan was talking about some surly girl serving her sister in a large dept store.

Coleens sister asked the girl if she was having a bad day.

    The girl replied "No, why?"

Coleens sister said "Well do you want to tell your face that then!".

    waaaaaahhhh!

    Do it BGB.

    I would! <fishwife smilie>

perhaps some people have more exacting standards, and expect a level of service to match what they're paying for?
