Ryanair Priority Boarding Q....

*Pipster*, 9 August, 2008 at 20:47 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

As much as I can't stand them, we are travelling with Ryanair from Bristol in a couple of weeks time (me, H & our 2 year old) and H has got it into his head that we need to pay for 'Priority boarding' in case we can't sit together. Last time we flew we went with Easyjet and he insisted we use have 'Speedy boarding' which was the hugest waste of money ever, mainly because we ended up behind people that didn't have it and because they called families with children on first anyway. Has anyone ever travelled with Ryanair & used it, and if so do you reckon 'Priority boarding' is really worth it?

Ta muchly.

I've seen people go before us when we had priority boarding and they didnt.

    I wouldnt bother.

You'll get on first as you have a child anyway

Actually, I'm not sure.. The recent times I've flown the parents+kids have had to stand in the queue with the rest of the people.. They only find this out when they've been standing at the desk for ages, hoping to board, and then have to go and stand in the back of the queue..

Could one of you and the child check in online, which automatically gives you priority boarding, then save a space for the other once on the plane. We had to wait in line with our kids when travelling with Ryanair. That's probably your best bet, then get to the gate asap and sit as near to the door as you can so that when the herding starts you're near the front.

Thanks for the replies. Stupidly I hadn't considered online check in actually. I've only ever travelled with either Easyjet or Flybe in terms of budget airlines (if you could call Flybe 'budget' given their prices!) so I wasn't sure how or if Ryanair differed when it came to boarding.

    Replies much appreciated.

Mmm the lovely ryan air priority boarding....

    pay for it

you don't get on first with kids anymore with them

the people who pay for priority boarding get on first regardless of if they have kids or not so there may well be 50 people in front of you who will not let you get on first regardless of how many kids you have or how young they are

it is ridiculous! but they pay the same as you and you all queue up to get on 'first'

good luck is all I'll say (having travelled with 16 month old twins and having priority people barging past us down the stairs to get on before us)

rant me no I'll just never use them again if I can help it I'll travel with a proper airline

Oh and you can't check in online if you have luggage which no doubt you will do

Thanks Sairedy. Good to know! We'll be travelling reasonably light as we're going to stay with family, but all the same we will have luggage.

I really would rather not fly with them but sadly (as I'm sure is the case for a lot of people, and probably how they continue to get passengers!) they are the only airline flying to the destination we want, or anywhere near it, and they're cheap. Gah! Maybe the expectation of abysmal service means I'll be pleasantly surprised <hopeful icon>!

We paid for it, travelling with a 18 month old... it was worth it. People did still barge us out of the way but at least we got to sit together.

word of warning, we were a bit late going and by the time we got there they'd started boarding, so that was obv a waste of dosh! so be early if you can.

    Thanks MrsB.

I'm thinking I might just let H shell out for it. If there was any problem I'm not sure I could cope with the 'I told you so' dance he'd do. And if it does turn out to be a waste of money from Bristol then I get to do the 'I told you so' dance to him. So it's a win win situation really. I do so enjoy being in an 'adult' relationship! ?
