I saw him at the Roundhouse in Camden last summer, it was his biggest gig to date, and it was one of my top ten nights of my life. At the end he mashed up 'money on my mind' with 'finally it has happened to me' and it was incredible!! Not because I'm a teenage fangirl, but because the atmosphere was phenomenal, his voice sounded amazing in there, and I danced my butt off with a brilliant friend. The crowd was mainly gay men but also mostly people in their 30s.

He's marmite, isn't he. It's why he's so successful. People either LOVE his voice, or despise it.

I thought Sam Smith was ok at first. Nothing special, but ok. Now I think he's just incredibly overplayed. I swear every time I turn the radio on within ten minutes I'm going to hear at least one of his songs, if not more.

As for the others, I don't see the appeal of any of them, sorry. Although, can I give a special mention to Meghan Trainor? She's an idiot. "I'm bringing booty back. Go ahead and tell those skinny b!tches that" - I have big issues with the idea that it's ok to call someone a "skinny b!tch" in a song that is supposedly about empowering girls to love their bodies. It's just as damaging and nasty as fat-shaming. What's wrong with "thin girls can look cute. Fat girls can look cute. As long as you're healthy, that's what matters"?

Yes! Why does she feel the need to say that? I have a friend who is naturally skinny (even after 4 kids) and she gets really upset by stuff like this!

Oh, and the bit that says momma told me boys like a little more booty to hold at night. Some do, some dont, that's the beauty!

I would absolutely agree if the very next line wasn't "nah I'm just playin', I know y'all think you're fat, but every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top". But that is the next line.

ID, isn't that like someone calling curvy girls "fat cows" and then saying "nah, I'm only kidding"? It's still insulting.

I suppose I just think the media (and, actually, the public in general) have a very twisted view of how girls should look these days. There seems to basically be two options - 1) supermodel thin a la Keira Knightley, or 2) curvy with "booty" a la Kim Kardashian. (I have no idea why my brain went for the KK KK initials there, btw). I know quite a few girls (and women!) who feel that they're unattractive because they're not skinny, but they have tummies, small hips and small boobs. My friend's daughter is 16, size 8-10 and veers between wanting to lose weight and wanting to put it on so she feels like she fits into one or the other category. But I digress.

I agree with the general point and I don't love that line in the song, but the fact that she takes it back in the next breath just about redeems it for me. Just! Skinny shaming is definitely not cool.
